Retail distribution can be a great way to expand your business… but only if you time it right. The problem with jumping into retail distribution too early is that you risk overloading your supply chain and breaking promises to retail partners. The same retail partners you want to build trust and long-term relationships with…. So, ask yourself: Can my supply chain realistically handle the influx of demand that comes with retail distribution? Remember: If your goal is to 10x your outcome, that means 10x the strain on your production line too.  We recommend working closely with your supplier to establish a goal for the volume or tonnage increase to get a second opinion. Then, take this to your production and manufacturing department and find their honest opinion on feasibility. When it comes to knowing if your business is ready for retail distribution, supply chain capacity isn’t the only consideration. In fact, there are 7 more areas you’ll need to look at. Find out what they are here: https://lnkd.in/dS5kwqaa #ConsumerBehavior #Retailing #Business #Commerce

Pro tip: Let the market tell you when your business is ready for retail distribution. While expanding your business across multiple channels is a smart move (especially in 2024), there’s no point investing in brick-and-mortar if your customers are only interested in shopping online.  So, here’s what we suggest. Before making any definitive decisions, assess the market and determine your place in it. Look at areas such as: → Market demands → Competition  → Retail pricing → Shipping costs → Margin harvest If you can’t identify where you’ll fit in, take it as a sign that your business and the market aren’t ready for your retail distribution. We know it’s tempting, but don’t rush the process because you want your product on store shelves. Be patient. Wait until there’s demand in the market for your product, and your business can withstand it. If you want to learn more, we wrote a post about market readiness and the 8 questions every merchant should ask themselves to determine if they are retail distribution ready. The power of the Amazon Prime badge is fading. 80% of Prime shoppers are just as likely (if not more likely) to purchase a non-Prime product as a Prime product. As long as you can commit to the same 2-day delivery promise, customers don’t seem to care either way. So, that begs the question… Is it still worth paying extra for things like fulfillment fees, and storage costs, to utilize Amazon FBA? The answer: It depends. If you don’t mind dealing with strict size requirements and limited brand control, and prioritize convenience over flexibility, then Amazon FBA is probably the right fit.  However, if you’re seeking a more cost-effective option that facilitates business growth, then FBM is the way to go. With FBM you can: • Create custom storefronts and use your own branded packaging • Get access to customer data for each sale  • Ship heavier, more high-value products without incurring extra charges • Integrate omnichannel fulfillment through a single network and platform To find out more about what alternatives to FBA are out there, and how FBM works, check out this post: https://lnkd.in/etHgRVQq  #retailing #amazon #supplychain
