Announcing Our 2024 Elk River Kipper Scholarship Recipient Since its inception in 2019 as a tribute to former staff member Charlie Cammer for his 20th work-anniversary, the Elk River Kipper Scholarship has been awarded annually to Vista Verde staff alum to further their education and personal/career development. Charlie Cammer was committed to helping the many young staff he mentored learn and grow into leaders who serve their community, are environmentally aware, and are paying it forward out in the world. This year’s recipient is Sarah Goldman. Sarah was a former Vista staff member, serving in a wide array of positions including server, backcountry ski and hiking guide, and Youth Program Coordinator. She is now the Human Resources Specialist over at our sister property Steamboat Lake Outpost. We’re so excited the award is going to such a humble and supportive leader of our community. Sarah explains what receiving the Elk River Kipper Scholarship means to her and how she plans on using the scholarship: “I am incredibly grateful for the gift of this scholarship to enable me to pursue intentional personal and leadership development through this 2-year cohort program. It isn’t a typical educational program—there is no degree or certification attached to it. Rather, the mission of the organization is to bring together Christian theology and psychology to build up spiritually, mentally, and emotionally healthy leaders, equipping participants to do our inner work so we can step into our areas of influence in life with a greater sense of health and wholeness, able to have an impact on the lives of those around us and help others to grow and find that same wholeness. Through different seasons of life and jobs I have worked, I have been privileged to come alongside many people in their growth process, but I know I cannot do this well if I am not first seeking my own personal growth, deliberately and continually. That is my desire in doing this program, to immerse myself in the process, to expose the places of un-health in my inner life and to do the hard work of engaging in purposeful practices to continue to grow and develop as a person and as a leader within my sphere of influence. Right now, that influence is most tangible in my job at the Steamboat Lake Outpost, working in Human Resources. My entire job is working with people, and I know the work I do on myself will have a direct impact on my ability to influence the lives of the staff and guests I interact with every day.” Congratulations on becoming our 2024 Elk River Kipper Scholarship recipient, Sarah!
