Closing the Cardiovascular-Disease Gap: A Path to Healthier Women and a Stronger Economy At Visana, we're dedicated to improving women's health at every life stage, and the latest insights from the McKinsey Health Institute highlight a crucial area where we can make a significant impact: cardiovascular disease (CVD). Key Findings: - 1.6 Million Years of Life: Closing the CVD gap between men and women could help women regain 1.6 million years of life lost to poor health and early death. - Economic Boost: Addressing heart health in women could boost the US economy by $28 billion annually by 2040. - Leading Cause of Death: CVD is the leading cause of death for women, yet disparities in care and research persist. - Racial Disparities: In the US, Black women face higher prevalence and morbidity from CVD than non-Black women. Our Commitment: Visana is committed to addressing these disparities by providing sex- and gender-appropriate cardiac care and research. By focusing on prevention, individualized treatment, and public awareness, we can improve cardiovascular outcomes and overall health for women. #WomensHealth #CardiovascularHealth #HealthcareInnovation #VisanaHealth #HeartHealth #EconomicImpact #HealthEquity #WomensWellness Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/e4UxhWNF

We're thrilled to share that Barbara Levy, MD, FACOG, FACS, Visana's Chief Medical Officer, has authored a pivotal publication in the July 2024 edition of Obstetrics and Gynecology. As part of their Clinical Expert Series, Dr. Levy presents "A Contemporary View of Menopausal Hormone Therapy." The publication addresses the use of hormones to address perimenopause and menopause symptoms has seen fluctuating levels of enthusiasm over the years. Since the publication of the Women's Health Initiative's initial results in 2002, treatment practices and training for women's health care practitioners in managing menopause have significantly declined. However, the findings from that trial, which focused on older, asymptomatic patients, have often been overgeneralized to all estrogen products, menopausal women, and delivery mechanisms over the past 21 years. Dr. Levy advocates for a more nuanced, individualized approach for our patients. By considering the right formulation, dose, timing, and patient, we can recommend safe, effective, and appropriate treatments for menopausal symptoms. Last month, Joe Connolly, Visana's Co-founder and CEO, was featured on a panel at the MedCity Invest conference in Chicago alongside other industry leaders. Joe highlighted the challenges in securing investment for long-term women's health initiatives and emphasized the need for better quality metrics and increased research investment. He pointed out that while health plans and self-funded employers often seek a one-year ROI on a medical cost basis, the real costs of conditions like menopause—such as osteoporosis, dementia, and cardiovascular disease—unfold over five to ten years. Read more about the panel and the critical insights shared by Joe and other women's health executives in the full article on MedCity News: https://lnkd.in/gcz6XXvj #WomensHealth #HealthcareInnovation #MedCityInvest #WomensHealthInvestment #DigitalHealth
