Empowering Teams and Changing Lives: John Pennington's Vision for Proper Cannabis The latest episode of the Proud to Work in Cannabis podcast, Karson Humiston has an inspiring conversation with John Pennington, co-founder and CEO of Proper Cannabis Co in Missouri. This episode is packed with valuable insights and practical advice for entrepreneurs and professionals in the cannabis industry. Here are the top three takeaways: 1. The Power of Vision and Execution John's journey from a preliminary vision to leading a company with over 450 employees is a testament to the power of clear vision and relentless execution. He shared how he started with a simple idea, wrote it down, and communicated it effectively to his team. This process of getting thoughts from your mind onto paper and then into action is crucial for any entrepreneur. As John said, "When you can do that, that's executing on things that you think about. It's simple, but hard." 2. Building a Strong, Values-Driven Culture One of the standout points from our conversation was John's emphasis on building a strong, values-driven culture. Proper Cannabis has some of the lowest turnover rates in the industry, and it's no accident. John believes in the importance of having a mission, vision, and core values that everyone in the company buys into. He encourages his team to live these values daily, which fosters a sense of community and shared purpose. "Values are your behaviors. It's how you talk, how you treat, how you interact," John explained. 3. Investing in People and Community John's commitment to his team and the broader community is truly inspiring. From promoting 46 employees last year to teaching business and purpose in the St. Louis County jail system, John exemplifies leadership that goes beyond business success. His approach to leadership is about being visible, present, and genuinely caring about the people around him. This not only builds a strong internal culture but also positively impacts the community. Vangst is thrilled to announce the latest episode of the "Proud to Work in Cannabis" podcast is now live! Hosted by Karson Humiston, the episode features seasoned cannabis writer Bruce Barcott and Beau Whitney, Chief Economist at Whitney Economics. Together, they have been collaborating on this report since last year, and it was great to have them both on the show to share their insights. 1️⃣ The Resilience and Growth of the Cannabis Job Market 📈 Despite the turbulence of the past few years, the cannabis industry has shown remarkable resilience. The industry is celebrating a significant rebound with the addition of almost 23,000 new jobs, bringing the total to 440,145 full-time equivalent positions as of early 2024. This represents a 5% year-over-year increase, a testament to the industry's strength and potential for even more growth. 2️⃣ State-Specific Surges and Declines 🗺️ The landscape of cannabis employment is diverse across the United States. States like Michigan, Missouri, and New Jersey are leading the charge, adding thousands of jobs and showing the potential of well-regulated markets. On the flip side, cannabis has seen job losses in states like California, Colorado, and Washington, highlighting the challenges of market saturation, regulatory hurdles, and the need for balance between supply and demand. 3️⃣ The Critical Role of Regulation and Market Adaptation ⚖️ The discussion with Bruce Barcott and Beau Whitney of Whitney Economics underscores the importance of adaptive regulation. As the market matures, regulators need to shift focus from solely public safety to also consider the economic health of cannabis businesses. Right-sizing license structures and addressing issues like delinquent payments are crucial steps to ensure the longevity and prosperity of the industry. This episode is a must-listen for anyone invested in the future of cannabis. Whether you're a job seeker, business owner, or policy maker, understanding these dynamics is key to navigating and capitalizing on the opportunities within this evolving industry. https://bit.ly/3xt18FH

Founder & CEO @ Vangst - helping people find jobs so good, they should be illegal

A couple months ago I was in NY and noticed there was a YPO event where Jack Daly was speaking. I emailed the NY chapter manager and asked if I could join. I went to the 4 hour sales workshop and it was the best workshop of my life. I immediately approached Jack after, and asked him if I could hire him for my company and my YPO Boulder Chapter. Jack said he was sold out for the year. In the spirit of sales, I decided to try my own sales skills on Jack. I did not want to wait until 2025 to work with Jack. Fast forward three months, and today Jack spent the day at our office, with our sales team, for our Q2 kickoff. In October, he’s coming back to work with my YPO Boulder chapter. Today was unbelievable and I feel truly lucky that Jack agreed to work with us. One team member said it best, “all I can say is, wow”. Another said “I learned more about sales today than I have in my career - and I’m more motivated and prepared to hit the gas in Q2 than ever before”. Thank you Jack Daly for an inspirational, action packed, tactical day. We can’t wait to show you our Q2 results. “We’re coming”!!! 🚀🔥💙 Vangst
