  • This spring we launched the "Anatomy in 3D" course at UNF, a collaboration with the Mayo Clinic. Taught by Dr. M. Laura Habegger, Assistant Professor of Biology, and Dr. Grant Bevill, Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, this innovative course offers biology and engineering students hands-on experience in the burgeoning field of 3D medical printing. Professor Habegger notes that this course could significantly enhance students' prospects in 3D medical printing labs. We look forward to seeing the impact of this class on our students' futures! #UNF #MayoClinic #3DPrinting #AnatomyIn3D #Biology #Engineering

  • Planning a beach trip this weekend? Be sure to visit the UNF Seaside Sculpture Park! This project is a transformative opportunity for our students. Each participant presents their small sculpture models to a committee of UNF faculty, community members, and the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville. Selected students receive scholarships to fabricate and install their pieces as large-scale outdoor works. Supported by MountainStar Capital, the Lazzara Family Foundation, and the City of Jacksonville Beach, this initiative marks the fifth art installation by UNF undergraduate sculpture students since the park's opening in 2016. Witness the creativity and skill of our talented students on display! #UNF #SeasideSculpturePark #StudentArt #JacksonvilleBeach #ArtInstallation

  • 🐬🚤 As we enjoy the water this weekend, let's remember the importance of boater safety for ourselves and marine life. Dr. Quincy Gibson, Director of the UNF Dolphin Research Team and biology associate professor, recently spoke at an event with representatives from the Mayor’s Office, Coast Guard, North Florida Marine Association, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Waterways Commission, Jacksonville University, and more. 🐾 Dr. Gibson, who has studied local dolphins since 2011, highlighted the recent rise in dolphins being killed by boat strikes in the St. Johns River. With dolphin breeding season from April to October, it's crucial to be extra vigilant. Newborn calves are especially vulnerable as they are still learning to swim and dive. Dr. Gibson urges boaters to slow down and keep a continuous lookout for wildlife. 🌊

  • 🚀 Exciting News! Dr. Marina Kounkel, an assistant professor of astrophysics, has received a $500K grant from NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration to collaborate with Vanderbilt University on a groundbreaking study of young eclipsing binary stars. 🌌 Eclipsing binaries are invaluable astrophysical laboratories that offer insights into their size, mass, temperature, orbits, and more. This study aims to greatly enhance our understanding of these systems, providing an unprecedented opportunity to examine how stellar and orbital properties evolve with age. Understanding the age of stars contributes to our greater knowledge of the universe and our place within it. 🌟 #UNF #Astrophysics #NASA
