Global demand for water has doubled since 1960. In Latin America and the Caribbean, this demand is expected to continue to grow, increasing 43% by 2050, almost double the global average expected growth of 20-25%. Without intensified climate change mitigation efforts, nearly half of the region's countries will face medium to extreme water stress by 2080. Improving water governance and management can build resilience amid climate shocks. Political will and financial support will be key for countries to prevent water stress becoming a water crisis. Our new #GraphForThought from PNUD en América Latina y el Caribe explores current and projected levels of water stress in the region: https://go.undp.org/ZtP

What does it mean to be poor? The answer varies between countries and communities, which is why it is so important to talk with people experiencing poverty. We are pushing the frontiers of our understanding of poverty and its measurement in Africa and Uzbekistan, thanks to our #FundingWindows partner Luxembourg. In Burkina Faso, Liberia, The Gambia and Sierra Leone, we work with partners to develop a localized Multidimensional Poverty Index to better understand poverty across different communities. And in Uzbekistan, the first National Multidimensional Poverty Index sheds light on not only the number of poor people but also on how they are poor. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ep9zNUS7 #HLPF

In South Sudan, 7 million of the country’s 12.4 million people are projected to experience crisis-level hunger this year, and 9 million are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. One in 10 don’t have electricity. And 70% can’t access basic healthcare. These are fundamental #HumanRights that the vast majority of people are living without. As South Sudan, the world's youngest nation, marks its 13th Independence Day, it finds itself at a pivotal moment in its journey towards nation-building. Our Crisis Bureau Director Shoko Noda reflects on her recent visit and how today's efforts will shape the country's future for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/eAaePsAG
