TVCCA is a private, non-profit Community Action Agency, incorporated in 1965. We are well recognized as a community leader and partner in advocating for and meeting the needs of the region’s economically and otherwise disadvantaged citizens. Services include: Housing: Assisting households facing eviction or homelessness. Housing Services can also help with the search and application process for senior housing options in New London County. Energy Assistance: Financial assistance toward a household’s energy bill; emergency assistance if a home’s service is shut-off or about to be, or out of fuel; other energy related services including heating system repair and replacement, budget counseling, and referrals for weatherization. Nutrition Assistance: WIC is a supplemental food/nutrition education program for eligible pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, and infants/children to age 5. TVCCA’s Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals to seniors, allowing them to remain independent in their home. Case Management: Accessing programs within TVCCA, the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services, and throughout the community like food banks, furniture banks, and housing applications. TVCCA also helps to prepare new DSS applicants for eligibility determination interviews. Financial Education: Supportive services designed to foster and develop positive household budgeting and credit management skills, and to assist households with overcoming their current hardships by taking command of their financial futures. Childcare and Preschool Programs (Early Head Start, Head Start, and Little Learners): TVCCA provides affordable, quality, comprehensive infant/toddler, pre-school & childcare programs that serve children from birth through age five. Employment & Training: TVCCA staffs the American Job Center – Eastern CT. Yesterday's food drive at ShopRite in Norwich was a success! 1,167 pounds of food were donated by generous community members, who also donated $123 in cash and $200 in gift cards. The food will be brought to United Way's Gemma Moran Food Center for distribution. TVCCA receives the cash and gift cards for our Client Emergency Fund. Thanks to all our volunteers, to ShopRite for providing the great venue and shopper incentives, and for Hall Communications for broadcasting the event on its stations for the entire day! Our Fall Food Drive will be a 2-day event; we hope to see you again!

In 1978, TVCCA made history as a Community Action Agency when they journeyed to Washington, D.C. Their mission: to meet with USDA representatives and advocate for a monumental change in federal legislation. Their efforts resulted in a nationwide shift, allowing CAAs like TVCCA and other community programs to assume responsibility for administering WIC programs. This achievement marked a significant milestone in TVCCA's legacy. By expanding beyond the traditional hospital-based model, TVCCA pioneered a new era of care that emphasized holistic well-being and comprehensive support for families. Today, we celebrate TVCCA's enduring commitment to community advocacy and transformative change as Community Action Agencies in America celebrate their 60th anniversary.
