Colorado has launched a new state online data hub on mental health. The hub is managed by Colorado's Behavioral Health Administration, a relatively new section of state government, part of the Department of Human Services, tasked with “driving coordination and collaboration across state agencies to address behavioral health needs.” As states look to grapple with the mental health crisis, transparency and interoperability will be key to ensuring dollars are well spent, patient health outcomes are impacted, and that stakeholders across the care continuum are working in tandem. https://hubs.ly/Q02F85qR0

As part of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, we are shining a spotlight on innovation and the opportunity to improve health outcomes across traditionally underserved populations. An exciting new study finds that a collaborative care intervention delivered in real-world settings significantly reduced PTSD symptoms among patients from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds. The study suggests that this comprehensive form of care is beneficial for people from racial and ethnic minority backgrounds, who often face disparities in medical settings. https://hubs.ly/Q02F8sbf0

We're excited to release our refreshed report, "Measurement-Based Care in the Treatment of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders" - a collaborative effort by the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute and commissioned by Path Forward. The report builds on the 2015 The Kennedy Forum report, adding new measures and extensive research. It highlights the use of MBC (Measurement-Based Care) in treating mental health and substance use disorders across primary, specialty, and acute care settings. The report also explores payment and policy strategies to expand access to MBC, including value-based payment arrangements and accreditation standards. It’s time we started using social and experiential data to improve the quality of that care. In the years since the World Health Organization released its pivotal report in 2008, the concept of social determinants of health (SDOH) has thankfully expanded beyond the public health sector and into the lexicon of the broader healthcare community. Social Determinants of Health are now understood to influence as much as 80% of a person’s modifiable health factors and 50% of their overall health outcomes. Every major U.S. health organization is actively evaluating SDOH to improve outcomes, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with its six-pillar framework for addressing social determinants and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of the Health People 2030 initiative. However, such programs are almost universally focused on using SDOH data to promote health equity and expand access to care.
