Today's extreme heat means the electric system will work overtime from 3–6 p.m. when use is at its peak. Our regional transmission provider, PJM, issued the following statement earlier this week. “PJM has the generation capacity and transmission capability to meet the expected demand on the system during the heat wave, but extended periods of extreme heat does have the potential to stress the electric system and cause reliability challenges,” said Kevin Hatch, PJM’s Sr. Manager – Dispatch. Here are easy ways to lower your energy use. ➡️ Turn your thermostat up 1-3 degrees. ➡️ Use less hot water. ➡️ Delay charging your electric vehicle.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown Will Vote to Overturn EPA's Power Plant Rules. “The Biden Administration failed to work with Ohio workers, electric co-ops, and other affected Ohioans to fix the rule,” read Brown’s statement. Brown supports current congressional efforts led by U.S. Congressman Troy Balderson (R-OH) and will vote to overturn the EPA power plant rules. https://loom.ly/7fk3EWU

Congressman Troy Balderson represents many of our members in Ohio's 12th Congressional District, which includes Licking, Knox, and Muskingum counties. He is leading a bipartisan effort to challenge the Biden Administration's plan to shut down coal power plants across the country, including the one that generates most our your electricity (Buckeye Power's Cardinal Power Plant, located in Brilliant, Ohio). “Slashing our baseload energy production while power demand continues to climb at historic levels is shortsighted and will have a catastrophic impact for Ohioans. This Congressional Review Act resolution allows Congress to step in and reverse the Biden Administration’s efforts to practically eliminate all fossil fuel power generation by 2032.” - Congressman Balderson https://lnkd.in/gS8sXUPD

The new EPA rules put additional pressure on our electric grid and will impact our ability to bring you reliable power. Visit https://loom.ly/l8ZlmKE to help us spread this message. “Our electric grid is already stretched thin. The nation’s grid watchdog, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), recently forecast that over the next five years, all or parts of 19 states are at high risk of rolling blackouts during normal conditions. They also predict most of the country will face similar risk when demand for electricity spikes during exceedingly hot or cold temperatures.“
