I’m excited to share that today I officially stepped into my role full-time as President of THE JPB FOUNDATION. After having the privilege of spending several years as a grantee, board member, and board vice chair of the Foundation, I’m looking forward to taking on this new role, especially at such a critical moment for our nation and world. As the threats facing our nation grow more profound – the most urgent being the threat against our democracy – it’s critical that we meet this moment by working to strengthen the movements fighting today’s biggest battles. Protecting and expanding democracy demands that we build power with those who have been denied it, and we can’t build lasting power only by working in issue siloes. In the Foundation’s next chapter, our expanded mission will help people who have been denied power to build it, so they can change unjust systems and create a more democratic, inclusive, and sustainable society. To advance that mission, the Foundation has also just announced a spate of exciting news (which you can read more about here: https://lnkd.in/gwBMReSK), including our planned grantmaking for 2024, new program areas, and a number of new senior leaders and board members who we’ll be welcoming to the team. They bring with them decades of experience fighting for systemic change on the ground and in the halls of power. This is a big change for me, as I move fully into the philanthropy space, and I’m thrilled to lead a team of this caliber. I’m grateful to my friend and longtime collaborator, Barbara Picower, for her trust in me and for building such an extraordinary institution. Let’s get to work!
