Around 7.3 million disabled students are enrolled in public K-12 schools in the country. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), students with disabilities are guaranteed the right to free public education with appropriate special education services. However, special education programs are understaffed and underfunded, and students of color with disabilities are disproportionately impacted by the lack of resources. Join us on 7/25 for a #RaceAndEducation conversation focused on the extra barriers students of color with disabilities face and sustainable solutions to eliminate gaps in services for all students with disabilities. Working at the intersection of policy & politics. Empowering policymakers. Driving nonpartisan educational improvement.
About us
The Hunt Institute is a strategic catalyst for transforming public education and securing our country’s future. Using our depth and breadth of knowledge, we bring together the right people and resources to facilitate critical dialogue and mobilize action on the issues that matter in education. Established in 2001, The Institute honors the legacy of James B. Hunt, Jr., the former governor of North Carolina who distinguished himself as an ardent champion of education. That work continues in earnest today. Our mandate: to inspire elected officials and key policymakers to make informed decisions that result in improving the lives of all children through quality education. In 2016, the Institute became an independent, nonprofit entity and joined forces with Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy to pursue research, educational partnerships and events related to improving education policy.

According to The Hunt Institute’s 2023 Across the Aisle survey, 70 percent of voters believe teaching real-world skills for the future work force is an important priority in public education today. Ninety-four percent of voters favor increasing job skills and workforce training opportunities in high school like apprenticeships and internship opportunities. A recent study concluded that 52 percent of students with bachelor’s degrees are underemployed one year after graduation. Voters are looking for education leaders to call for investment into Career and Technical Education opportunities and to expand work-based learning experiences for K-12 students. Join us on 7/18 to discuss the innovation in career preparation for K-12 students. Register here to attend: https://ow.ly/xC8O50SriT4 #Education #EducationMatters #K12 #EdHomeroom
