The mechanical dinosaur #sculptures in “Dinosaurs in Motion” are the creation of the late John Payne, a #sculptor, #metalworker and artistic pioneer from North Carolina. Inspired by museum visits with his own children, Payne sought to meld science and art as he built his large-scale, kinetic dinosaur sculptures. The skeletal sculptures are made from repurposed materials and brought to life through electricity, motors and #robotics. “Dinosaurs in Motion” tells the story of dinosaurs alongside the story of Payne and his artistic journey. Visit this limited-time experience at Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation through Sept. 8: https://lnkd.in/guNbdZaY. #DinosaursInMotion #metroDetroit #Michigan

After the assassination of her husband, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King continued to fight for the expanded rights of all Americans as well as for worldwide peace. One of the most notable results of her activism was the founding of The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change (The King Center). The King Center was founded on June 26, 1968, in the basement of the King family home in Atlanta, Georgia. Today, the center continues to educate the world on Dr. King's unique style of nonviolent activism, carrying on his legacy of peace through education and social change to future generations. You can learn more about King's role in the Civil Rights Movement by checking out our pop-up "To Establish the Rule of Justice: 60 Years of the Civil Rights Act of 1964," on display now at Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. As we come into the season for exploring and celebrating Americanism, it's important to remember that the promises of freedom have ebbed and flowed to different groups in different ways. No other group in the United States has a more delicate relationship with freedom than African Americans.
