    As a decentralized, multi-site organization with a hybrid workforce, face time can be hard to come by. We were thrilled to convene our recently launched Leadership Collective in Nashville last week where we put our heads together to talk through some strategic initiatives, explore new frameworks and share the excitement for some big plans in H2.     One of our core values at Tend is to embrace our differences, which is reflected not only in the diversity of our teams but also in our inclusive approach to care. We’re proud to work with clinical leaders like Dr. Tyler Sanslow, who presented a course on Inclusive Care & Equitable Oral Health for the LGBTQIA+ Community earlier this year at Yankee Dental Congress. In honor of #Pride month, we’re thrilled to share a few of his best practices surrounding inclusive care. Meeting our patients where they are is one of the core tenets of our clinical care and it’s our privilege to spotlight Dr. Tyler for embracing these values every day. 🏳️🌈 Inclusive Policies: Upholding patient and employee confidentiality while respecting HIPAA regulations is paramount. Ensure your policies and best practices are not only known but also easily accessible to all, fostering a transparent and inclusive environment. 👩���� DEI and LGBTQ+ Training: A commitment to DEI extends to regular LGBTQ+ training sessions, conducted annually at minimum and integrated into new hire orientations. Trainings should be designed with comprehensive competencies to ensure understanding, and create a culture of accountability and respect among team members. 📲 Physical and Digital Environment: Make sure your physical environments, as well as digital channels like websites and social media are inclusive. Create welcoming spaces by considering diversity across all touchpoints; for example, offering stickers for children that go beyond traditional gender norms or ensuring signage for all-gender restrooms. 💬 Pronouns: Respecting pronouns is essential for fostering comfort and inclusivity in patient interactions. By encouraging the usage of pronouns in conversations, badges/IDs, and forms, we aim to elevate visibility and demonstrate solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. 🚻 Gendered and Gender-Neutral Terms: Use gender-neutral language, avoiding terms like "sir," "ma’am," and "guys." Instead, embrace inclusive terms like "partner," "patient," and "you." When in doubt, default to using "they" to ensure everyone feels seen and respected. 📑 Inclusive Language on Forms: Recognize the importance of representation and supplement insurance forms with fields for preferred names and respectful language options. Make sure to address patients in a manner that aligns with their identities and preferences.

    “The thousand decisions you make when you're opening or taking over a practice start to snap into focus when you really consider your target demographic and how you uniquely appeal to them.” Chris Salierno, DDS, the Chief Dental Officer at Tend, says they are rewriting the idea of modern dentistry by centering the company around the patient. He says that instead of trying to spread themselves too thinly and target every demographic, Tend prefers to hone in on “busy business people”. It’s better to be targeted than be everything to everybody. 🎯 Create a more tailored service by focusing on specific pain points and using them to create a patient-forward experience.  What do you think?
