More employers are offering sabbaticals than pre-pandemic, driven by an increased focus on work-life balance and the influence of Gen Z. Consider working with your HR lead to design a sabbatical program that is a win-win for you and your employees, minimizes disruption, and is approved equitably. Consider: -Will it be paid or unpaid? -How many years of service makes an employee eligible? -How much total time off is allowed? -How much notice is required? -Are there requirements that it be used for employee development? (for example, Patagonia allows employees to volunteer for an environmental group for up to 8 weeks) Succession planning and knowledge transfer will need to happen so that the team's work runs smoothly, but sabbaticals can be an effective way to improve employee engagement and prevent burnout.
