To buy or not to buy?? 🤔 This is something we hear on a regular basis. When property owners and managers are considering the benefits of EV charging, one of the first thoughts are, "why not let someone else deal with that?". At first, this "free" option sounds like the best of all worlds. I get to offer my guests this valuable amenity and it doesn't cost me anything. Not so fast....there are many things that you give up when allowing someone else to install EV chargers on your property when you are not in control. Allowing someone else to operate their business on your property and provide a service that most will associate with you is a tricky scenario. You are giving up a lot of control and leaving your guest experience in the hands of someone else. Most of the contracts lock you into multi-year deals with steep penalties and very little recourse for poor service. As a hotelier, I am not sure I would give up the control of a critical guest service with such limited recourse. Think about it, the EV charger is one of the first interactions the guest has with your property. Imagine this scenario, the guest has been driving all day, arrives at your property and goes to charge his car only to find that the chargers are not working. He notices that they haven't been working for days. He tries to reach the EV charging company but there is no response, or at best there is the obligatory "sorry for your inconvenience". In his frustration, he leaves a 2-star review for your hotel because the chargers didn't work. How much did those "free" chargers cost you now? Not only that!!! What about the revenue you are giving up. Do your research and know the facts before jumping into "free" EV charging.

For all those hoteliers out there wondering about EV charging and incentives, here is a short chart of some of the things we are seeing in the market and getting for our clients. These programs can make the ROI on EV charging look amazing. Even in areas where you don't have a larger penetration of EVs you should take advantage of being able to own your own EV charging solution at a fraction of the cost. We just completed a project for a property that installed 6 chargers for less then $4K.
