Recently our Communications Coordinator Brandyn Spengler was awarded as our Employee of the Quarter for 2023 Q4. Brandyn has been a full-time dispatcher for the department since August of 2011 and was promoted to Communications Coordinator in January 2022. Brandyn oversees the day-to-day operations of our Communications Division. In the past year she has made proactive strides to review and update policies and procedures in dispatch and improve upon training practices for new and current dispatchers. Brandyn also oversaw the hiring and training of several dispatchers this past year due to retirements and employees relocating. In addition to her new role, Brandyn is always willing to jump in and work at a console in dispatch on days where other dispatchers need to take time off. Once again we would like to thank Bob Lamon and Indiana Memorial Funeral Care & Cremation for their donation of the plaque and gift card awarded to some of our exceptional employees each quarter. Shown here is Bob Lamon, Owner of Indiana Memorial, Spengler, and Chief Upchurch.

Recently, Adam Bandy was recognized as the Speedway PD Officer of the Quarter for 2023 Q3. A plaque recognizing his accomplishment was donated by Indiana Memorial Funeral Care and presented by Chief Upchurch. Adam is currently assigned to the Operations Division as a patrol officer and has only been with the department since April 2022 when he was hired as a lateral applicant from another department. In that short amount of time, Adam has already made a difference at the Speedway Police Department through his professionalism and pro-active work ethic. Thank you for your service Adam and congratulations on this accomplishment.

This morning we had the absolute pleasure of hosting students from the Area 31 Criminal Justice Program. Our team at Speedway PD gave the students an overview of our department and discussed many of the opportunities that are available to them with a career in law enforcement and public safety communications. We would also like to thank the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for co-hosting and allowing students to learn more about how public safety operates during large scale events like the Indianapolis 500.
