We're in for more hot weather this week, with heat index values possibly reaching 101° F. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday night. With these extreme temperatures comes an increased risk of heat-related illness, particularly for those working outdoors, children, and older adults. As we move through the week, please keep the following in mind: ➡️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, two of the more common heat-related illnesses. ➡️ If you'll be working outdoors this week, take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. ➡️ Check in on vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors. ➡️ Visit your town or city website for more information on local cooling centers. Today, we pause to remember Sgt. Michael Chesna and Ms. Vera Adams on the sixth anniversary of their tragic passing. We send our thoughts and support to the Chesna Family, the Weymouth Police Department, the Adams Family, and all members of the South Shore community who mourn their loss.

CCA has expanded its provider agreement with South Shore Health to include its Senior Care Options (SCO) network. CCA SCO members will now benefit from the services of over 200 providers, including 50 primary care physicians, from across the South Shore and Southeastern Massachusetts. “Broadening this agreement to include access for our SCO members will allow CCA to further support the medical, social, and behavioral health needs of patients across Southeastern Massachusetts. Ensuring access to high-quality care is a top priority for CCA and we are thrilled that more CCA members will now be able to receive advanced, connected, high-quality care at South Shore Health locations,” says Mark Waggoner, General Manager, CCA Massachusetts. Recently, Kimberly Dever, MD, Vice President, Women’s Health and Chair, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Tim Quigley, RN, DNP, Senior Vice President, Special Projects, attended a reception hosted by The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. The Schwartz Center helps healthcare organizations conduct Schwartz Rounds, which are structured forums where clinical and non-clinical colleagues come together to discuss the emotional and social aspects of working in healthcare. As part of the reception, Dr. Dever spoke to attendees about our monthly Schwartz Rounds and the positive impact these open forums have had on our colleagues. Dr. Dever also discussed how Schwartz Rounds have become a vital part of our colleague wellness efforts, helping colleagues feel more supported in their roles. Recently, Allen Smith, MD, MS, President & CEO, and Jason Tracy, MD, Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, spoke with the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association to discuss our ongoing capacity challenges. Dr. Smith and Dr. Tracy shared insight on recent volume trends at South Shore Hospital and discussed some of the innovative programs and initiatives we are using to address these challenges. It was another fantastic evening this year at the Town of Weymouth’s annual 3rd of July Fireworks Celebration! South Shore Health EMS and colleague volunteers from across South Shore Health were at George Lane Beach to staff the medical tent and provide assistance to any attendees who needed care. Our team, including our Emergency Preparedness colleagues, also collaborated with state and local first responders and emergency management organizations to ensure that everyone was able to celebrate as safely as possible. This event is always a highlight of the summer and we’re proud we were able to be there to support our community.
