Partnership makes progress. This collaboration between Prologis and Solar Landscape is what equitable #climateaction looks like. The built environment has the potential to reshape our energy grid and CRE leaders like Prologis are at the forefront of the #energytransition.
A U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Grand Prize winner. Solar Builder Magazine’s Project of the Year. Prologis's 11-megawatt rooftop community solar portfolio has earned multiple national awards, but its most important accolade is how it generates affordable solar energy for 1,800 local families. Top #commercialrealestate leaders joined Prologis and Solar Landscape to tour the famed project and see how it's a model for the CRE industry’s sustainability efforts. By dedicating their rooftops to #communitysolar, CRE leaders like Prologis can generate both clean energy and goodwill. Commercial Observer has recognized Solar Landscape VP of Engineering Lucas Titolo as a 🏆2024 Top Young Professionals Honoree.🏆 By helping America’s top #commercialrealestate owners pair revenue with environmental #sustainability, Lucas is making a meaningful impact with a new ESG solution – community solar projects hosted on vacant commercial rooftops. “The projects we design are appealing to developers and commercial real estate owners because we turn their roof into a new source of operating income,” said Titolo. Commercial Observer's Abbie Nehring explains, “The concept [of community solar] is more or less the same whether you’re in New York or Maryland. First, commercial owners give Solar Landscape access to the underutilized space on top of their buildings. Then Titolo and his team install a revenue-generating photovoltaic array to shrink the building’s carbon footprint while also lowering utility costs in the surrounding neighborhood. Some big names in asset management and the warehouse, logistics and self-storage sectors have made the 12-year-old company their top pick for designing these rooftop grids. Think Prologis, Heitman, Public Storage, and Extra Space Storage.” The projects Titolo and his team design show how rooftop solar can solve a big piece of the climate puzzle and serve as a catalyst in the energy transition. 🔗 Read the full profile in Commercial Observer: https://lnkd.in/evtRQyvh #CRE #coyoungprofessionals #communitysolar

“It’s a win-win all around, which is why we love it. We’re earning revenue, we’re achieving some of the sustainability initiatives that we have, and we’re also giving back to the community in some way. So it’s a no-brainer,” said David Weissman of Greek Real Estate Partners. Commercial real estate leaders like Greek are learning the power of leveraging their rooftops for community solar. Shaun Keegan, CEO and founder of Solar Landscape, said that community solar programs allow developers to bypass an industrial building’s tenant entirely. Previously, developers were limited to providing power only to the tenant. But warehouses don’t use that much power, so “it prevented us from using the rest of the roof,” Keegan said. “Community solar is what we call front of the meter, so it plugs the energy directly into the grid for the benefit of nearby communities.” Read more in The Philadelphia Inquirer ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ez2WcrnW #commercialrealestate #CRE #sustainability #communitysolar
