About us
SIL is a global, faith-based nonprofit that works with local communities around the world to develop language solutions that expand their possibilities for a better life. Language barriers in #healthcare affect roughly 30% of the global population—increasing the risk of complications in treatment, and unnecessarily prolonging a patient’s discomfort, pain, and anxiety. Communities in Papua New Guinea collectively use more than 800 languages throughout the country, and little to no healthcare resources exist in the vast majority of these languages. Four languages are used just within the small valley region where SIL’s mobile clinic makes its weekly visits. As more languages become supported in global healthcare, the opportunity for a healthier future develops for millions of people. 🌏🩺 Learn more: https://ow.ly/qMx250Spyby

Over 84 million people are forcibly displaced worldwide. When people are forced to flee their home, they experience traumatic events that leave them with wounds of the heart. Many literally run for their lives, suffering violence themselves or witnessing the violence against loved ones. The experience of displacement in itself is traumatic as one loses a sense of home, belonging, identity, and self-worth. Your support helps SIL provide trauma healing workshops that not only offer immediate aid, but also help build up a growing community of trauma healing facilitators who in turn will impact hundreds and thousands longing for healing and hope. ❤️🩹 Join us this #WorldRefugeeDay: https://ow.ly/ZjQ950SlWL9

"If someone thinks you have been a refugee, the thought that comes to their mind is that you are not worthy, you are not good enough. You have to work very hard to prove to people that you are worthy. I have been fortunate to get connected to people in my life who believed that I could actually do something, and encouraged me to go back to school." Clene spent a year in a refugee camp after her family left Rwanda in 1994. Today, she serves on the SIL Global Diaspora Team. "I am passionate about working with refugees because I know that most of them don’t have a voice. I am determined to be that voice, and hopefully raise up some others who will join me and make that voice so the world can hear!" “I have an obligation to help my children learn. It’s not just the teachers that teach.” SIL literacy and education consultants partnered with communities in the Solomon Islands to provide parents with tools in their own language that could help them reinforce concepts being presented in the classroom and engage with their children. 🎒📚 The result? The Play and Learn curriculum, now used by more than 700 kids. (As an added bonus, it provides parents who recently completed literacy classes an opportunity to practice their new skills!)
