YouTube continues to eat Hollywood. Two new developments today: 1) creator-owned streaming service Nebula just announced launching a film studio (!) - and 2) YouTube shared that over 150M people watch on TVs daily- and that a key part of their strategy focuses on prestige creators like Michelle Khare and Rhett & Link who produce high quality TV style content At a certain point - the line between YouTube vs traditionally produced television content blurs - especially in a streaming first world, where you see Netflix, HBO's Max, NBC's Peacock, and YouTube all sit right next to each other. When you look at content like Michelle Khare's 'Challenge Accepted' - it's so high quality that it could have been produced by a television studio. But it in fact blends the best of both worlds - Michelle's team has both traditional production experience but also understands what does well on YouTube's algorithm. And by building its own film studio - Nebula is both helping studios recognize that YouTube originated work can go big and helping YouTubers learn how to adapt their work accordingly. I think this is the future. What do you think?
