Sarasota County has issued a precautionary statement regarding elevated particulate matter levels due to impacts from Saharan dust. The levels may reach the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category, per the Environmental Protection Agency's national ambient air quality standards for public health. Gov. Ron DeSantis cut $32 million in funding from Florida’s arts budget this year—but a $1 million grant for affordable housing made it through for Florida Studio Theatre. The money will be used for affordable units in an eight-story building going up next door to the Gompertz Theatre.
