The Sarasota County Commission invited Sarasota County Hazardous Waste Collection Supervisor and U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, Brian John Mangum to lead Wednesday's meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mangum served 15 years in the U.S. Coast Guard Veteran as a E-7 Chief Marine Science Technician. Since joining the Coast Guard as a reservist 15 years ago in February of 2009, Brian has deployed seven times accounting for over 3.5 years of active duty service. These mobilizations include a major oil spill in 2010, the war in Afghanistan in 2012, hurricanes in 2018 and 2022 and a national pandemic in 2021. For his service, he has been awarded Armed Forces Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, DHS Outstanding Unit Award, Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, CG Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation w/O device, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Mobilization (x2), CG Rifle Marksman Ribbon, CG Pistol Marksman Ribbon, CG Meritorious Team Commendation (x2), CG Commandant Letter of Commendation Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, CG Special Operations Service Ribbon, CG Overseas Service Ribbon, CG Reserve Good Conduct Medal (x5) and the NATO Medal. The Sarasota County Commission invited Sarasota County Fleet Services Auto Shop Operations Manager and U.S. Air Force Veteran, Michael Naletko to lead Tuesday's meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. Naletko served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Airman. He served from 1997-2002 as a Special Purpose Vehicle and Equipment Technician for Logistics and Transportation. Naletko supported Operations Northern Watch, Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom. In March 2000, he was on President Clinton's advance team (TALCE) to provide mechanical support during his visit to India. For his service, he has been awarded the Air and Space Achievement Metal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (x3), Air Force Good Conduct Metal, National Defense Service Metal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award. Naletko is a third-generation veteran whose family has served in the Army, Navy and Air Force. Thank you for your service! #SRQCounty #SRQCountyGeneralServices
