We're taking this week to unwind and get ready for the new fiscal year ahead! ✨ It is important to take time to recharge as it is critical to sustaining all the great work we do for SDF and the San Diego community. Providing this opportunity for our team aligns closely with our Strategic Plan and our commitment to improving mental and behavioral health to create resilient communities. Our office will be open for normal business hours on July 15, 2024. We wish you and our team a healthy and joyful summer. See you next week! #MentalHealth #ResilientCommunities #SanDiego

We recently launched El Camino Fund, a new affinity fund at SDF and seeded the initiative with a $2.5 million endowment to empower local Latino/a leaders and strengthen economic mobility and generational wealth-building projects led by Latino/a-serving nonprofit organizations in San Diego County. It provides an opportunity for those engaged with and passionate about San Diego’s Latino/a community to express their generosity and support through philanthropy. Social justice means equal rights and equitable opportunities for all. ✨ According to the San Diego Economic Equity Report, many San Diegans face challenges in affording housing and other basic needs, with significant disparities affecting our Black and Latino/a neighbors. As San Diego’s largest regional community foundation, we’re dedicated to expanding economic opportunities and removing barriers to inclusion, striving to make San Diego County a better, stronger and more equitable region. We partnered with the Dr. Seuss Foundation to award $1.3 million in grants to local nonprofits supporting early childhood education and care for San Diego families with young children ages 0 – 5. This ongoing collaboration supports school readiness and equitable access to opportunity, ensuring a strong foundation for literacy in the earliest years. In response to the Jan. 22 floods, we launched the San Diego Flood Response Fund to rapidly deploy flexible resources into the community and support organizations responding to the unprecedented flooding. Some of the most acute flooding and damage occurred in communities in National City, Spring Valley and southeastern San Diego, including Mountain View, Southcrest, Logan Heights and Encanto, leaving neighbors and residents without livable homes, clothing, food or transportation. 100% of donations received for the San Diego Flood Response Fund went towards nonprofits helping San Diegans impacted by the flood. Nonprofits: did you know real estate is the largest asset class in the United States, yet it only represents about 3% of charitable giving? The truth is that most nonprofits lack the infrastructure or expertise to accept these gifts, which deters their growth and impact. Check out a recent webinar where experts from SDF and Charitable Real Estate Foundation (CREF), a supporting organization of SDF, discuss the transformative potential of accepting real estate gifts for nonprofit organizations.
