Although HHS and CMS say the proposed policies would increase value-based care and expand access to behavioral and oral health care, if finalized, physicians would face a cut in pay for the fifth year in a row. It also includes several provisions that would impact Medicare Advantage. The 2,248-page proposed rule will be published in the Federal Register on July 31. CMS on Wednesday released the 2025 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System and Ambulatory Surgical Center proposed rule. Here is an initial look at what’s included in the 984-page proposal. The proposed rule, which will be published in the Federal Register on July 22, affects roughly 3,500 hospitals and 6,100 ASCs. Comments on the proposal are due to CMS by September 9.

An in-depth report by the Wall Street Journal reveals that #MedicareAdvantage insurers were paid $50 billion from 2018 to 2021 for thousands of questionable diagnoses. The newspaper analyzed billions of Medicare records and discovered in some cases patients never received subsequent care for their supposed diagnoses and, in others, doctors say patients couldn’t possibly have the condition.
