Executive Director - Delaware County Transit

6 months in a row, everyone! 6 months in a row of trips over 11,000. 6 months in a row of new ridership records for each month in 2024. 70,960 trips served over 6 months, completing 59.96% of last year's record ridership already. I got even more good news! July 1st, Delaware County Transit launched it's extended hours of FLEX service within the City of Delaware! One of the highlights was serving nearly 200 trips on Saturday July 6th! This was DCT's first Saturday service in nearly 10 years and we are excited to see that ridership increase in the not-too-distant future! We can make many assumptions about the data and where DCT is going...but we have to pause for just a moment. The front half of 2024 has proven to be an immense success. With our expanded hours, and our pending microstransit zone within the City of Sunbury, Ohio....what will the back half of 2024 look like? I got some ideas but I am going to enjoy our successes for one night...then gear up for the second part of the year :)

My first time in Birmingham yesterday since Masabi and Via launched National Express LTD ticketing within the Citymapper app. Such a slick experience! You can read more about it here or try it out yourself! - https://lnkd.in/dKsDduAs Shout out to Stuart McLay on the National Express side, Ravi Jolly and Alex Thomas at Via/Citymapper and the Masabi team for this great execution.

Associate Principal of Global Public Relations, Via + Citymapper

Smart piece by Julia Angwin on the frazzling effect from many journey navigation apps, which prioritize speed or trip duration over routes that are more enjoyable for the user. It doesn't have to be this way - which is why Via and Citymapper actively factor in deeper levels of customization (like minimizing annoying detours or strange turns!) to our routing algorithms.

🔥 Hot off the press from the United States Conference of Mayors! We were thrilled to meet so many American mayors in person and learn from city leaders, both in the transit space and in government. Hear from Mayor Martha Guerrero of the City of West Sacramento, California, and Daniel Ramot, our CEO, on how to enhance our transit networks to cover the first and last mile, providing more convenient, cost-effective public transportation options for communities big and small. We’re beyond proud to partner with hundreds of U.S. cities to build tech-enabled microtransit that grows ridership within the same budget, increases job access, and brings back sales tax revenue to our cities. 👇 Watch the full video, and learn more at ridewithvia.com.

Hear from Omer Shacham, our Architecture Team Lead, on why he loves joining the ride to change the future of transportation: “As a lead architect, I transform innovative product ideas into technical realities, ensuring every feature is optimized for performance and cost-efficiency. Collaborating closely with product teams, I navigate the complexities of system architecture to deliver high-quality solutions. One of the most important aspects of my role is engaging at all levels—from high-level business strategy and product development to diving into the bits and bytes of our flows. This makes the position very colorful and dynamic. At Via, we strive to meet our customers’ needs while anticipating future demands, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.”

I feel like a broken record here but in the best way possible! DCT's single highest month ever was this past April where we served 12,239 trips. And now, this past May is the record holder for our single highest month! We served ***12,636*** trips for May! Some stats: - 46% of FLEX trips were booked through the Via app! - 9,326 FLEX trips, 2,435 Demand Response trips, and 865 Special trips anchored by the ever amazing Delaware Arts Festival! - We drove nearly 75,000 miles throughout Delaware County and adjacent counties! This growth is amazing because we haven't even launched our expanded service yet! In July, we are expanding our Delaware microtransit service to 5am - 9pm Monday - Friday and 8am - 4pm on Saturdays. I have a sneaking suspicion this new record won't last a whole lot longer... I am thankful to be working alongside some of the best in the business to see this agency reach these new milestones!
