The standard of care and practice for emergency dispatch and response.

About us

Priority Dispatch Corp. is the leader in providing emergency dispatch protocol products as well as training and services. Our company has developed a comprehensive, systematic approach for triage systems for emergency calltaking centers. Our Medical Priority Dispatch System® (MPDS®) has been in use in many countries for over 30 years. Currently, the MPDS is used in 42 different countries and has been translated into 19 different languages and dialects. The MPDS exists in a computerized version called ProQA®, which is the most complete software solution in the industry. ProQA software has automated quality assurance features and greatly simplifies the dispatching process. It has a customizable format that seamlessly integrates with CAD (computer-aided dispatch) and phone systems. The software leads the calltaker through a structured interrogation sequence, displaying each question individually with specific answer choices, then prompts the call taker for a response and – based on call taker input – assigns a patient condition code and recommends a response assignment. Prioritizing EMS responses helps avoid inappropriate response allocation and inappropriate use of lights-and-siren. Instead of a maximal response, it is better to send a response that is most suitable for the situation. In this way, the MPDS not only saves money – it saves lives.

  • At the end of last month, King William County Sheriff's Office in King William, VA went live with the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS). Implementing MPDS can be a lot of work. Our team was impressed with King William County's staff and their willingness to put in the work to become proficient with a new system. They went live smoothly and are already using MPDS at a high level. MPDS serves as a decision support tool for Emergency Dispatchers and callatakers, guiding them through getting the right information in the best order for efficient dispatch and responder and caller safety. Once help is on the way, it helps them provide potentially lifesaving prehospital care. Congrats, King William County Sheriff's Office! We're proud to call you a part of our community. #EmergencyDispatch #Virginia #Medical

  • Here's a cool peek behind the curtain you might not get to see very often: Periodically, we invite members of our community within a specific region to a Focus Group to network, introduce some upcoming products and services, and hear their stories and ideas about all things Emergency Dispatch. There are breakouts for specific topics that are led by experts, we cater lunch, and everyone has a ton of fun. These meet-ups help us get to know our community better, get a feel for how things are going in a given area, and create opportunities for members of our community to interact and build relationships. This week, we were in Florida. Keep your eyes peeled for when we're coming to your region, and be sure to come out and join us. #EmergencyDispatch #PublicSafety #Networking #Florida

  • Helping callers in crisis can take a heavy toll on Emergency Medical Dispatchers. With the rise of mental and behavioral health calls, EMD burnout is a very real worry for many Emergency Communications Centers. With Protocol 41: Caller in Crisis (1st Party Only), EMDs aren’t left to their own devices to figure out how to develop emotional resilience. Learn more about Protocol 41: https://bit.ly/3XmFNsG Protocol 41’s training leverages the experience and knowledge of professionals in Emergency Dispatch and psychology to help EMDs understand best practices for maintaining their own emotional well-being and mental health and teaches them steps to develop a plan for decompression following particularly difficult calls. • Some very exciting news from Richmond, VA: Richmond Department of Emergency Communications went live this week with the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS). This is their third discipline, having already gone live with the Fire and Police Priority Dispatch Systems (FPDS and PPDS) in 2022. Richmond was only live with MPDS for two minutes before its first call came in. Shameeka Marcelle answered and dispatched a Stroke call at 8:02 am on Monday morning. Richmond has a population of around 229,000 and covers roughly 60 square miles. It's especially exciting to see an agency implement their third discipline and create the same standard of excellence for every member of their community who calls in, no matter what they're calling for. Congrats to Richmond! Your community is in great hands. #Virginia #PublicSafety #EmergencyDispatch #MedicalDispatch

  • DPS - Price Communications Center in Utah has been using the Medical and Fire protocols at their agency in cardset form for a long time. We've been proud to call them a part of our community for over 20 years! This week, they went live with the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS) and the Fire Priority Dispatch System (FPDS) in ProQA. This represents a huge upgrade for their Emergency Dispatchers and calltakers. ProQA works as a decision support tool for Emergency Dispatchers and calltakers, guiding them through the proven best steps for any type of call that might come in, helping them provide potentially lifesaving aid once help is on the way, and giving them access to a number of tools that can't be found anywhere else for diagnosing and providing treatment over the phone until responders arrive at the scene. The first call taken with their new system was a seizure call taken by Joanna Reyna (pictured below) and dispatched through MPDS in ProQA. She also took the agency's first FPDS call – an electrical hazard – a few hours later. DPS - Price Communications Center dispatches for two counties and state troopers that span six counties. Join us in congratulating them on this massive upgrade to their calltaking process. #ProQA #EmergencyResponse #EmergencyDispatch #EmergencyCommunications

  • Clinton County 911 in Carlyle, IL went live last month with the Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS)! To say we're proud of Clinton County and excited for them is an understatement. Their dedication to their community and desire for continuous improvement shined throughout the implementation process. Clinton County Emergency Dispatchers and calltakers now have MPDS as a decision support tool, which helps ensure that the level of service is consistent on every call, no matter when it comes in or who takes it. MPDS' tools help Emergency Dispatchers make an impact while responders are en route, giving them what they need to perform Dispatcher Directed CPR, talk a caller through childbirth, or provide other potentially lifesaving care. Congrats to Clinton County 911 – your citizens are sure to thank you. #MedicalDispatch #MPDS #EmergencyDispatch #Paramedics
