Then, in 1975, a young Steve joined his father’s ranks, immersing himself in the family business. Through dedication and passion, Steve and his wife, Dixie, eventually took the reins, nurturing the Polar Bear into an iconic establishment. Though the establishment closed in 2005, Preston native Sawyer Hemsley, cofounder and CBO of Crumbl Cookies, is now the driving force behind its revival. He is renaming the iconic drive-in to Polar Bear Eats, with a mission to craft unforgettable experiences and deliver the irresistible taste of nostalgia. Sawyer bought the name and receipts from the previous owners: Steve and Dixie Larsen. Doing so has allowed the Polar Bear team to do everything in their power to bring back the original menu. The teams unwavering commitment to the community has transformed us into the unparalleled dining destination renowned citywide. Not only did we replicate our historic neon clock (can you spot the clock in the photos?), but we also wanted to stay as true to the original Polar Bear as we could, so we created a nostalgic experience with walk up ordering and outdoor dining. Of course, we felt it was important to remember and bring back as much as the past with Polar Bear as we could, so we added car hop and drive through like it had for some time back in the day.
