𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗸𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲?! 🤨 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻? --- Prior to rejoining the field of advertising, I spent two years immersed in the realm of science. Recognizing the prevalence of individual opinions in advertising, I aimed to inject a fresh perspective into the industry by conducting surveys and one-on-one interviews. My goal was to uncover any common traditions and, if absent, explore how we approach strategy in various global regions. Thus, my journey commenced with dedicated research. Over time, I began to draw parallels between my experience and that of Krišjānis Barons, who roamed my homeland, Latvia, collecting folk songs. The connection between folklore, defined as the traditional beliefs, customs, and stories passed down through generations by word of mouth, and our industry became apparent. In our field, everyone possesses an opinion, and these perspectives are shared from one generation to the next. Hence, I coined my brand as Planning Folklore. Planning Folklore - Podcast episode (written format) We all make mistakes and learn from them. I wanted to record the first episode of the Planning Folklore podcast, but it was not possible due to technical issues. Despite this, I'm conveying the exciting content of the conversation with Razvan Matasel in a written format for you to read. Razvan Matasel is a strategist with 25 years of experience in advertising and strategy. Razvan is currently writing his PhD thesis on strategy models. And when he mentioned his research topic to me, I was quite excited and wanted to know more about it. In our interview, Razvan talks about the gap between the worlds of academia and practitioners, about strategy models and their applications (of course), about the short-term thinking he sees everywhere, and about the lack of original thinking in our field. I hope you enjoy reading, Baiba
