3 homes in the U.S. were obliterated last year from a result of underground utility strikes. All 3 were gas explosions. Two cats died in these explosions, but by some miracle no people were killed. However, one adult and a child suffered critical injuries, and their lives may never be the same again. 1. Susquehanna, Pennsylvania 2. Woodstock, Illinois 3. Wappingers Falls, New York I'm sure the people of those cities won't ever think the same way about underground utility construction again, especially next time it comes to town. From the families who lived next door, the school across the street (miraculously was on holiday that day), to the people who barely survived- Everyone will be on alert for the rest of their lives. No matter who was at fault, these things are always preventable, and we believe more men and women working in the underground utility construction industry need to understand what is at risk if they don't already. Before it's too late. Join our sponsors and help spread damage prevention awareness so we can all go home to our families safe and sound! You called, you waited and you got marks on the ground. Good to go right? Wrong! Joe Patalak, Dan Foley, Dave Mulcahey and Thano Tziforos talk about how the responsibility falls back on the contractor to find private lines, and that maybe some larger private facility owners, shouldn't be private. Don't forget! If you want to watch these discussions uncut, you can check out the full stream of the event here: https://lnkd.in/gHV3Jdwx Doli Construction Corp Cobra Concrete Cutting Services Co. From good communication to learning from our mistakes. We as an industry do many things to make it safe. At the same time though it feels like we've hit a wall when it comes to making it even safer. Is this the best it will ever get with the system we have? What data do we have to go off of to support this? Can we push through and reduce damages to zero? This was a great discussion from Angel Torres, Frank Bedtke, Fred LeSage and Ted Troyner! And we look forward to sharing more from this discussion as well as the others! "The biggest 'threat' to your facilities, is having someone digging on top of them." Dan Rest Educating and preparing for big projects was one of the main topics for this session, and collecting data, organizing it and getting into the right hands can come with its own mountain of issues as Saul L Lopez, MSEM SHANE HART Mat Taylor and Dan Rest discuss. Regardless of how sensitive that data is, everyone agrees that we can be much safer having that data, than we are when its behind lock and key. HBK Engineering, LLC Pipe View America Competers Inc. Adam Yunker brings up something he doesn't think is talked about enough. He recounts how he's seen contractors often feeling pressured to pick up the bill on a damage, when it isn't their fault, just so the utility company can stay in good standing with the city and/or the owner of the damaged line. chris work and Steve Johnston give some great insight to help pull back the curtain on this matter. What do you think? Is this not being talked about enough? Comment you thoughts below! GPRS Stallion Communications Inc. Doli Construction Corp
