We asked Marietta City Schools a simple question; “What’s your biggest problem when monitoring the weather?” For Marietta, it wasn’t just about ensuring they had the most accurate and timely data but also about sending it through the proper communication channels at the right time and to the right people. Here’s how we made it happen👇 1️⃣ - On-Site Perry Weather Station With an Outdoor Warning System • Marietta wanted the best regarding weather monitoring, so naturally, an on-site weather station was the way to go. This enables Marietta to track wet bulb globe temperature, precipitation, wind speed, and storm cells heading their way, all with a button click. 2️⃣ - Everything, Everywhere, All at Once • With our on-site hardware plus an outdoor warning system, Marietta was not only able to continuously monitor wet bulb globe temperature but also communicate with teams practicing outdoors the moment the WBGT went above the school policy’s threshold, eliminating the need for department heads and coaches to scramble around and talk to multiple people over the phone, through text, or email. 3️⃣ - You’re Not That Weather Guy, Pal • Let’s face it: weather is unpredictable, and understanding how or why it works isn’t for the average person, much less for a coach or athletic trainer with far more important responsibilities. The Perry Weather team ensured Marietta that if they saw something in their current or future weather conditions that they didn’t know how to respond to, our meteorologists would always be available to field their concerns and questions on whether to play on or adjust activities. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Watch the video or check out their full customer story page, linked below, to see why Marietta trusts us for weather-related decisions.

Construction, manufacturing, and even schools with athletic programs that train in the outdoors—this is your wake-up call. 👏HAVE 👏 A 👏 PLAN👏 IN 👏 PLACE!👏 There is nothing worse than entering these days of extreme heat without a plan for when conditions get dangerous. - Switch to wet bulb globe temperature to assess heat stress conditions. It's a much better unit of measurement for understanding exactly how heat and severe weather can affect the human body. - Take temperature readings every HOUR. A lot can change in such a short amount of time. - Have a plan for when the heat crosses the threshold of mild to dangerous, whether more frequent breaks, shortened practices or shifts, or even delaying activities until it's safe. - Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!💧 Stay safe out there, y'all; we're in this together. 😎 #severeweather #extremeheat #heatwave
CNN Business senior economy writer. I cover the economy and how it affects people, businesses and communities
The skin gets flush with fever, the breaths grow short, the heart races, dizziness sets in. The helmet and goggles only make matters worse, trapping heat on the head and the eyes. There’s little to no escape from sweltering temperatures for construction workers like Eva Marroquin, who cleans work sites in Austin, Texas, and has worked in the industry for 17 years. “You feel death at your doorstep, but we have no choice but to go to work,” she added. Another punishing wave of intense heat has put much of the US in a vice grip this week, subjecting some workers to dangerous (if not deadly) conditions; disrupting small and large businesses; sapping away consumer spending and tourism; and taking a big bite out of economic activity. The Air Quality Index is often an afterthought for most schools and athletic departments in California, with temperature and heat stress being the talking point. But air quality is more important than people think, and the consequences of not having up-to-date information on air quality can lead to serious ramifications, not just to the human body, but also to the environment. Check out how in our latest video down below. 👇
