The composition of the new European Parliament has been decided, and we now know which political groups will head each committee. These committee chairs wield considerable influence, shaping legislation and guiding policy discussions. Here's an overview of who holds these key positions and why it matters. 🗳️ Parliament Breakdown (2024-2029): 🔹EPP: 188 seats - Energy, foreign affairs and agriculture committees 🔹S&D: 136 seats - International trade, regional development and economic affairs committees 🔹Renew: 76 seats - Security and defence, legal affairs and development committees 🔹New Patriots for Europe (NPE): 84 seats - Culture and transport committees 🔹Greens/EFA: 53 seats - Internal market committee 🔹ECR: 78 seats - Budget and civil liberties committees 🔹Left: 46 seats - Employment and social affairs committee Why it Matters ❓ 🔹Legislation Influence: Committee chairs facilitate consensus, ensure compliance with parliamentary rules, and guide committee members in their work. 📜 🔹Power Balance: The new Parliament makeup sees EPP and S&D holding major roles, but NPE's rise shifts the dynamics significantly. ⚖️ The NPE becoming the third largest group marks a significant shift in the power balance, allowing them to influence important policy areas, such as transport, heavily. This new composition of the Parliament will shape the EU's legislative direction for the next five years, impacting key areas from economic policy to environmental sustainability. #EUElections2024 #EuropeanParliament

While the US celebrate Independence Day, the UK are trying to prove they are over that messy divorce in 1776 by holding a General Election. But who are the Labour MPs who seem set for an almost-certain landslide victory? What will this mean for companies operating in the UK? To determine this, it's crucial to get to know its Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) and what they will stand for in government. To do so, Penta has conducted an in-depth analysis of the public views and campaigns of nearly 150 Labour PPCs throughout 2023 to shed light on the future direction of a Labour government and the motivations of its MPs. Our findings reveal several key areas where Labour PPCs diverge from the party’s leadership, indicating the issues they are likely to prioritise and advocate for if elected on July 4th. These insights provide valuable signals about the pressures and campaigns we can expect from a future Labour government. Across the landscape of our society—whether it's business, sports, entertainment, or politics—it's very rare for all the eyes of the world to stop and concentrate their attention on one event, one moment. Presidential debates are one of those very rare moments. Last night’s first—and only?—presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump offered viewers in the U.S. and around the globe the chance to compare the candidates and hear their pitch to voters on why they deserve another four years. That was last night. Today? The fallout. Is this typical "Inside-the-bubble" hysteria or a bigger moment that will shake up the race? The political universe is in a frenzy, with everyone ranging from the Trump and Biden campaigns to down ballot candidates and armchair pundits assessing the impact the debate will have on the trajectory of the race. On today’s episode of What’s At Stake, Bryan DeAngelis and Kevin Madden do that and go a little deeper. They review the debate performances, analyze the strategies of both campaigns going forward, and also assess the immediate and longer-term ramifications last night will have on the business community as we get closer to November and the next Administration. https://lnkd.in/dKmfzJ93

For a party set to win the UK General Election, surprisingly little is known about Labour’s swathe of Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs). To better understand what is likely to shape the future direction of a Labour government, Penta has analysed the public views and campaigns of almost 150 of Labour’s PPCs throughout 2023 to gain an understanding of what will motivate them post-election. Penta’s analysis has identified a number of key areas where Labour PPCs diverge from the party’s leadership. We believe that these divergences are an important signal to what they will campaign on - and pressure the Labour Government on - if they are elected to Parliament on 4th July. Will your business in Europe be affected by the outcome of this election? Interested to read the report and analysis in full?
