Oishei Children's Hospital hosted its bi-annual Quality Block Party last Friday! Teams from across the hospital showcased their current quality projects. Topics varied from parent/caregiver education to clinical research impacting Western New York. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated! The OCH Quality Block Party Winning Research was the Radiology Department's project, X-ray Clearance of Cervical Spine in Trauma. Other projects featured included: Caregivers and Bone Marrow Transplant Treatment (Hematology/Oncology) DoseEdge Expansion (Pharmacy) Golden Hour (NICU) Improving Maternal and Infant Care in WNY (RPC) C-section SSI Rates (Maternity Team)

This month, as we recognize Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention Month, join us in celebrating patient outcomes FOR kids like beautiful, strong little Isla! Isla recently underwent surgery through the Laurence C. Wright Craniofacial Center at OCH to treat her cleft lip. As a nationally-recognized Approved Team by the American Cleft-Palate Craniofacial Association, the Center provides comprehensive facial reconstruction services, cleft lip and palate management, airway obstruction management and much more to the kids and babies in our community. “We did it. 80 miles. The first 50 running and then 30 walking. But we have 30 minutes to go. Time for one final lap.” These were the words Max Montante spoke right before their final lap of Delaware Park. Joined by friends Nick Ennis and Jack Pfalzgraf, along with swathes of family members and friends, the group completed their last lap, finishing the Mind Over Miles: 24-Hour Challenge! On June 27, we welcomed Max, Nick and Jack to Oishei Children's Hospital (OCH) as they presented the proceeds raised from their fundraiser. Going towards the Psychiatric Clinic at OCH, these funds will directly help the brave kids and teenagers in our community battling their own mental and behavioral health challenges. Thank you to Max Montante, Nick Ennis, and Jack Pfalzgraf for naming the OCH Psychiatric Clinic as one of the beneficiaries for their inspiring fundraiser!

An incredible staff, great food and big smiles made for an awesome wrap up to Healthcare Worker Appreciation Week! This week, Kaleida Health celebrated Healthcare Worker Appreciation Week with celebrations throughout ending today with lunch all together. Thank you to Kaleida Health for this week of recognition. Oishei Children's Hospital is proud to have once again supported and sponsored this important community-driven collection FOR the moms in our region. Dori Marshall, Chief Medical Officer at OCH, was invited to speak at the United Way Day of Caring Kick-Off and the Baby Shower Packing Launch. Dr. Marshall spoke a few words on the phenomenal impact that these donated items will have for the at-risk mothers in the Western New York area. Sponsoring this event was a natural extension of OCH's commitment to maternal and pediatric health care, ensuring that every family receives the support they need during this pivotal time, regardless of their circumstances. Thank you to our staff, visitors and everyone that contributed towards the United Way's Community Baby Shower! #UWBECDayofCaring

Last week, we hosted members from Sophia The Fierce, Inc. as they presented the proceeds from their Luxury Purse Raffle. They raised over $4,000 to assist families on J12 with parking expenses! Sophia's mom, Kristina Benintende (pictured center), and Aunt Jillmarie Giardina (pictured far right) came on behalf of their foundation to present the check, and were welcomed by members of Sophia’s care team. Sophia Benintende was a bright, compassionate young girl that passed at the age of 9 from Ewing Sarcoma. In honor of Sophia’s tenacious spirit, Sophia the Fierce, Inc. is dedicated to working towards a brighter future for children fighting cancer.
