About us
Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter (NWACS) is a private, non-profit organization that provides 24-hour residential, emergency triage care for children throughout Arkansas who are victims of abandonment, abuse, or neglect. Our mission is to provide these children in crisis with a safe haven, high-quality care, and hope for the future. The programs we employ to achieve our mission are: o Emergency Care/Case Management Program o On-Site School and Education Program o Sophia Scott Expanding Horizons (Activities) Program o Nutrition Program Our programs collectively meet the child’s immediate needs of food, shelter and safety and also provide lasting benefits, through self-esteem building, hope and education. Since opening our doors in 1993, the Children’s Shelter has cared for more than 13,000 children from throughout the state of Arkansas.

We're always happy to welcome the team from WK Kellogg Co! They stopped by to bring lunch to the kids and hang out. We also played a super fun cereal trivia game that the kids really got into - just a little healthy competition! Thank you for volunteering with us and showing our kids just how much their community cares about them. To learn more and get your team involved, contact Marlo Hamilton, Community Engagement Director, at mhamilton@nwacs.org. #wkkelloggco #volunteers #volunteering #givehope #weloveourvolunteers Jason Lambert, MBA

Joe Gammon joined NWACS in December 2017 and has been a vital member of our culinary team ever since. He is dedicated to the mission of the Shelter and kind and helpful to all of his co-workers. He goes above and beyond to help in any way he can. When working with kids, and a staff of almost 100 on three different shifts, the best laid plans often change at the last minute. Joe is always flexible and willing to work toward solving problems so that the needs of the kids are always met. For these and many other reasons, Joe Gammon is our Employee of the Quarter! Thanks to volunteer Pat Semon (and a little sweat equity from the kids) we are loving the harvest from our raised garden beds. This week for lunch, we enjoyed cucumbers, zucchini, squash and tomatoes - all grown right here on our campus! #homegrownveggies #gardening101 #raisedbedgarden #volunteers #volunteer #weloveourvolunteers

Summertime is the perfect time to give our schools a deep clean, make repairs and get the classrooms ready for students to return in August. Thanks to the Walmart Omni team, we are well on our way to getting Hope Academy ready for the next school year. They spent an afternoon sorting, packing, taping, painting, cleaning and more and we are so grateful for their help! We love our volunteers! Hope Academy is the first and only trauma-centered, tuition-free, public charter school in the state and is an extension of the programs of the Northwest Arkansas Children's Shelter. Through evidence-based practices, Hope Academy provides an environment conducive to social/emotional development and academic success.
