We know that no two kids are the same, but we often expect them to learn and process information as though they are. This is especially true of neurodivergent students. With the new school year around the corner, we want to share with you the main principles of ULD which is a teaching framework that aims to create inclusive learning environments for all students. ULD can show that the classroom can be structured without being rigid by providing students with different approaches to learning the same material. This can also be helpful to parents in understanding how their children might process and learn information best and how they can best support their study habits. Have you tried ULD? Was it effective or are there other frameworks you prefer? Let us know! #teaching #literacy #teachingyounglearners #ULD #learningstyles #educationtips #teachertips #dallasnonprofit #fortworthnonprofit #fortworthtx #texasnonprofit #northtexas
About us
New Horizons of North Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to telling at-risk kids a different story. Over 100,000 kids in our community go home alone each day after school, and 1/3 kids in Dallas County ready below grade level by the 4th grade; far too often, trends would say that they end up becoming another negative statistic. As a result, we are on a mission to tell kids a different story through tutoring, mentoring, and faith-building. With the support of community volunteers, New Horizons' afterschool programs provide 8 hours of mentoring throughout the school year to youth from East Dallas, as well as a 4 week summer camp. New Horizons partners with local neighbors, churches, organizations, corporations, and foundations for both volunteer and financial support. Each year students receive the opportunity to age with New Horizons programming, as we expand to serve a child from elementary through high school graduation. New Horizons of North Texas was founded in 2015 as an independent affiliate of New Horizons of Southwest Florida, founded in 2003 and who now serves nearly 500 youth each year.

A lot of people in Texas can forget that poverty is still very present here because there is a lot of affluence in our state, but children in Texas experience poverty at higher rates than the state's adults, with 1 in 5 children living in poverty as of 2024. This is higher than the national average of 17%. This is why services from Texas non-profits are essential to supporting kids and helping to break the cycle of generational poverty, without low to no-cost services, many kids wouldn't have access to the tools and services that help them overcome the odds. #bettertogether #northtexas #texaspoverty #childrenadvocacy #youthadvocacy #overcoming #youthadvocate #povertyawareness #texasnonprofit #dallascommunity #dallasnonprofit #texascommunity #supportnonprofits

As the new school year draws near, here is a quick comprehensive guide to UDL short for Universal Design for Learning. We are looking at adaptable solutions for classroom or after school program management that fosters a flexible environment for different types of learners. This is especially true for students with learning disabilities or who are on the spectrum and might think or process differently than the average student. We'd love to hear your thoughts, have you implemented this, was it successful or not? What are some of the challenges faced with UDL in the classroom? #UDL #schoolyear #teachingmethods #classroommanagement #nonprofit

Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated for people who can let us down or disappoint us, or don't value us. We can find ourselves not caring, cutting corners and demotivated even at our dream jobs. But when our motivation is working for the Lord, understanding the work Jesus did for us, and that our labor is not just about money or success but to change lives for eternity, we can find motivation to do our best job even when no one is giving us the recognition we might deserve. We teach our kids true character is what do you when no one is looking, but it's also about knowing their hard work isn't unseen or in vain. It's knowing they have a loving heavenly Father who has a good future prepared for them using their gifts and talents to serve others and lead fulfilling lives. Sometimes this means remembering in anything we do, we are not merely working for other humans, but actually for a God who delights in us! #workhardstayhumble #tuesdayinspiration #biblicaltruth #faithbased #northtexas

Happy day of Independence! Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” 2 Corinthians 3:17. Grateful to live in a country where there are so many freedoms, many that we often take for granted. May we desire this freedom both physical and spiritual for others and reflect on the price it cost. #freedomday #4thofjulyweekend #celebratefreedom #freedomforall #fourthofjuly #4thjuly #spiritoffreedom #independenceday2024 #dallasnonprofit #dfwevents #texasnonprofit

Fireworks are fun! But also dangerous if used incorrectly. Here are some tips and precautions to take that will make sure you and your family are safe when enjoying them. In 2022, U.S hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 10,200 people for fireworks related injuries; Over half of those injuries were to the extremities (29% hands and fingers, 19% legs, 5% arms) and 35% were to the eyes or other parts of the head. Children younger than 15 years of age accounted for 28% of the estimated 2022 injuries. What a privilege to share the hope of the Gospel with our kids and see the revelations the Spirit of God gives them! There is no junior Holy Spirit. They have such a zeal and boldness and God is raising up this next generation to tell the world of the Savior who loves them and paid the prices of our sins so that we can have an eternity of peace with Him. #thegospel #goodnews #ntx #dfwnonprofit #dallasnonprofit #faithbased #northtexas #jesusissavior

You don't have to have a degree to be a Youth Advocate! While it is a profession, Youth Advocacy is also a mindset. It starts with having a genuine and authentic relationship with the children in your life. Listening and taking time to understand what is important to them, sharing wisdom with them on how to navigate difficult and complicated situations without pressuring them to make a specific decision, being a caring and responsible adult in their life if that's something they lack, to let them know they are loved and seen. This is really the heart of advocacy! They will never forget what you do on their behalf and it will forever inform their character and change their life. Let this be your sign to pour into a child's life today ♥️ #youthadvocacy #youthempowerment #childdevelopment #childwelfare #dallasnonprofit

Child advocacy often entails dealing with childhood trauma and helping kids to heal or overcome what they have been subjected to. We believe in the power of the Gospel to bring healing, but God can often provide us with several means to draw us to that healing, what do you think is the most effective for children?
