Who’s heading to Philadelphia next week for RE+ MidAtlantic? Mark your calendar for Greg Wolfson’s show floor theater talk on Thursday at 3:30pm, “Solar Redevelopment: Mined Lands Mining the Sun.” Building solar on brownfield sites like retired mines has long been an industry goal, turning an unused waste site into a productive power generator. But they can be challenging to redevelop because of the potential for differential settlement. Differential settlement is the uneven shifting of land, and can lead to solar foundations moving or tilting over time. With traditional tracking systems using long, continuous torque tubes, this can wreak havoc on the array, often leading to system failure. It’s particularly prevalent in reclaimed mines, where empty shafts beneath the surface slowly collapse over time. The Nevados All Terrain Tracker, with its self-adjusting articulating bearings at each foundation, is able to adapt to these changes. When pilings shift, the bearings move with them, ensuring that torque tubes stay in alignment. We hope to see you there! #REPlusMA #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #MineReclamation #SolarPower #Sustainability

Happy Independence Day! At Nevados, we'll be celebrating energy independence. We're proud of our ongoing partnership with Priefert to manufacture our All Terrain Tracker in Mount Pleasant, Texas. Priefert is adding new manufacturing lines to turn American steel into cutting-edge technology to build American solar power. By producing the All Terrain Tracker here in the U.S., we avoid supply chain disruptions, shorten shipping distances, and contribute to energy independence. By adapting solar panels to the landscape instead of the other way around, we encourage communities to save topsoil for the future while reaping the harvest from solar panels today. And we can also help your projects qualify for domestic content bonuses created by the Inflation Reduction Act. Together, we’re making strides toward a more sustainable and self-reliant future! #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #EnergyIndependence #MadeInAmerica #AmericanMade

The Bartonsville solar site in Virginia is nearing completion and should start delivering renewable energy to the electrical grid later this year, reports The Winchester Star. This project won the 2024 Governor's Environmental Excellence Award, recognizing the innovative use of our Nevados All Terrain Tracker, which eliminated the need for grading on the site's challenging rolling terrain. Our tracker allows developers to preserve the integrity of the natural landscape and vegetation, reducing stormwater runoff. It’s also faster and easier to build than other market-leading trackers, leading to big savings on construction costs. In delivering the award, Gov. Glenn Youngkin said the project demonstrates “that balanced economic development and the protection of our environment go hand in hand.” MYR Group, the EPC building the facility, added that “Facing the challenging topography at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains, characterized by hilly terrain, below-grade rock, and karst features, the Bartonsville Solar project was designed using the Nevados all-terrain trackers. This tracker system, utilizing a modular bearing system, adapts to the natural curves of the landscape with minimal required grading, aligning with environmental conservation principles.” Check the comments below for a link to the story. 🔗⬇️ #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #EnvironmentalExcellence #Innovation

Shade is Solar's Superpower! That’s the case with agrivoltaics, where solar power can work together with agriculture to make both better. 👉 Sheep grazing under the panels help manage grass growth, leading to better airflow and improving the efficiency of the solar array. And it gives the animals a shady spot to cool off on hot summer days. 👉 Shade-tolerant plants like kale, lettuce, spinach, arugula, and chard grow often grow even better under solar panels because of “re-watering:” water evaporating from the soil condensates on the underside of the panels and drips back down onto the plants. 👉 When soil loses its fertility from intensive farming, solar arrays can offer a way for land to keep producing value during an extended fallow period, allowing native plants to flourish and rejuvenate the soil for future agricultural use. But not all solar plants are alike. To protect the topsoil, it’s important to pick a tracking system that can be installed with no land grading. The Nevados All Terrain Tracker has flexible bearings at each foundation, allowing fast and easy installation on any site, without the need for grading. In fact, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin recently awarded our tracking system the "Governor's Environmental Excellence Award" Gold Medal for demonstrating “that balanced economic development and the protection of our environment go hand in hand.” Check out the post below for more information about this award. Have you heard of differential settlement? It's the uneven settling of soil, a natural process that can have big impacts on your solar projects. While some movement is normal, excessive changes can lead to serious issues: the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a famous example. But don't worry, Nevados has you covered! Our All Terrain Tracker is designed to handle these shifts seamlessly, ensuring your solar project remains safe and productive for 30-40 years. As the ground shifts, our flexible bearings at each foundation pile automatically adjust to these changes. This isn't possible with other trackers designed with rigid continuous torque tubes. Check the comments below for a link to a recent webinar where we discussed this issue in depth. 🔗⬇️ #NoMoreGrading #TheWorldIsNotFlat #DifferentialSettlement

Where are Nevados All Terrain Trackers being installed? As you might guess, you’ll often find Nevados systems used in rough terrain and difficult sites, but not always. As Jenya Meydbray notes in this clip, we have projects going in California that happen to be dead flat. They chose Nevados trackers because they are faster to install: It’s a simpler system with fewer parts. The solar construction experts at Eclipse-M recently compared the constructability of our tracker to other leading brands. Even on flat sites that don't require grading, our product can be constructed faster, with less labor time. As we face labor shortages for solar installation in the U.S., this can lead to big cost and time savings for your project. Reach out today to find out why more and more solar developers are choosing the Nevados All Terrain Tracker for all their projects. #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #Constructability #SolarDoneRight #SolarTracker #PV

Making our innovative solar trackers here in the U.S. isn’t just a feel-good story. It’s key to our strategy, ensuring a reliable supply chain to deliver for solar developers across the U.S. Many trackers travel thousands of miles on cargo ships before they reach your project site. Shipments can be held up in ports or by Customs and Border Protection, leading to big delays. And as equipment is passed from the factory, to the warehouse, to the port, to the ship, and onward, each step along the way increases the potential for damage by the time it finally reaches its destination. Thanks to our partnership with Priefert, our All Terrain Trackers are crafted from high-quality American steel in Mount Pleasant, Texas, allowing fast, scalable production and delivery across the U.S. to meet even the most demanding project timelines. We recently had the opportunity for our partners and customers to visit the factory and see what made in America really looks like, with raw steel coils coming in the door and top-quality trackers going out, all in one facility. Reach out today to learn more about how we ensure market-leading reliability from purchase order to plant commissioning. #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #MadeInAmerica #ReliableSolar #Onshoring

Our founder Yezin Taha tells pv magazine USA today about how new technologies such as our All Terrain Tracker let solar developers build more easily on almost any site. Check the comments below for a link to Yezin’s article. 🔗⬇️ In the past, site selection criteria has focused on flat topography as well as large, contiguous parcels, lack of land features, and mild climate. That’s because traditional trackers have limited ability to adapt to undulating terrain, requiring developers to grade the land before installation or use variable foundation reveal heights under rows of long torque tubes. Flattening the land requires bringing in bulldozers and dump trucks. That adds to the cost and complexity of a project, as well as negatively impacting the environment. Some states require significant civil engineering and stormwater management measures to even approve grading — including large and expensive retention ponds, topsoil testing, revegetation measures, and more. Satisfying these requirements can be so expensive that developers may avoid that state entirely. The All Terrain Tracker has opened a whole new frontier in solar site selection, engineering and development. Before you rule out a potential solar site, reach out to Nevados. We’re building solar in places that developers would never have imagined ten years ago. #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #SolarEnergy #UtilityScaleSolar #RenewableEnergy
