Yesterday, we held our town hall meeting where we took the opportunity to recognize our outstanding N-Code leaders who were presented the Meritorious Civilian Service Award by Rear Admiral Nancy Lacore, commandant, NDW. These NDW leaders have played a significant role in the success of NDW and their respective departments. Located in the nation’s capital, the region encompasses more than 4,000 square miles, including the District of Columbia; the Maryland counties of Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Montgomery, Prince George's, and St. Mary's, and northern Virginia counties of Loudoun, Fauquier, Fairfax, Prince William, Stafford King George, Westmoreland, Arlington and the cities within their outer boundaries. NDW is the regional provider of common operating support to naval installations within a 100-mile radius of the Pentagon. Services provided include public affairs, public works, public safety, community support, human resources, information technology, morale, welfare and recreation, supply, air and port operations, ceremonial support and environmental safety. NDW is responsible for efficiently delivering these support services to more than 120 mission commands located within its geographical borders. Supports foreign diplomatic visits and ceremonies within the Greater National Capital Region (NCR). Serves as a proactive and anticipatory component to Joint Task Force NCR and partners with all local, state and federal agencies within the Region. Commemorating Battle of Midway Anniversary ICYMI: On June 3, 2024, the Naval District Washington and the U.S. Navy Memorial hosted a wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the 82nd anniversary of the Battle of Midway. Admiral William Houston, director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program for the Department of the Navy/Department of Energy, delivered a keynote address at the event. The Battle of Midway, a pivotal conflict fought over and near the Midway atoll, approximately 1,500 nautical miles northwest of Hawaii, stands as a symbol of strategic triumph and a crucial turning point in the Pacific Theater of World War II.
