Chief Executive Officer, and Professor and Kenneth L. Davis, MD, Distinguished Chair, Mount Sinai Health System
It's remarkable to see how the pandemic has reshaped our understanding of the intersection between public health and #healthcare. We delved into the critical importance of seamless collaboration between these sectors. Our conversation highlighted how, in an ideal world, the public might not distinguish between public health efforts and health care services. For instance, in managing infectious diseases like measles and syphilis, health care providers diagnose individual cases, while public health teams conduct contact tracing and community education. This dynamic interplay ensures comprehensive disease management and community protection. #AspenIdeasHealth #AspenIdeas #WeFindAWay

The World Trade Center Health Program Clinical Center of Excellence (CCE) at Mount Sinai recently hosted Dutch occupational medicine experts to share 20 years of insights on caring for 9/11 responders. Dr. Franz van den Nieuwenhof, an occupational medicine physician from VerzuimConsult, a leading consulting firm providing occupational health support to employers, highlighted similarities between COVID-19's impact on Dutch healthcare workers and 9/11 responders. “We are confident that we can learn much from their approach,” he said. Dr. Sandra M. Lowe, Associate Professor, Psychiatry and Environmental Medicine, and Medical Director of the WTC Mental Health Program emphasized, “There are meaningful actions we can take to treat trauma-associated conditions.” The event underscored the importance of international collaboration in enhancing mental health support. #WeFindAWay
