MOCA Jacksonville is pleased to present "Fill My Heart With Hope: Works from the Gordon W. Bailey Collection," an exhibition featuring artworks from the collection of Los Angeles-based scholar and collector Gordon W. Bailey. The exceptional works on view at MOCA reflect Bailey’s decades-long advocacy of marginalized artists, particularly Black Southerners. All of the artists featured in the inclusive exhibition, whether because of their gender, race, religion, or socio-economic status, pushed through discrimination and overcame various hardships. MOCA’s exhibition asks us to set aside preconceived notions, reconsider our historical definitions of contemporary art and more fully embrace the power of individual expression. "Fill My Heart With Hope: Works from the Gordon W. Bailey Collection" will be on view at MOCA Jax Jul 27, 2024 - Mar 23, 2025. Join us for the opening celebration on Sep 5, when we'll continue 100th anniversary festivities! Enjoy an evening of art and community featuring live music, the MOCA Bar, and new exhibitions throughout the museum. This event is free for all. MOCA Patrons and Members will receive their exclusive invite to the preview via email. Not a member? Join today! This exhibition was made possible, in part, by the City of Jacksonville, the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville, the Donald and Maria Cox Fund, the Haskell Endowment, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, MOCA Jacksonville’s Centennial Sponsors, and the University of North Florida. >> Eddie Arning, "Untitled (woman with cat in tree)," ca. 1960s. Mixed media on paper. 16 x 22 inches. Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, Gift of Gordon W. Bailey in honor of the museum’s 100th anniversary.

For the second year, CSX is making contemporary art more accessible by supporting Blue Star Free Military Access, which offers free admission to the families of active duty and former military and first responders from Armed Forces Day on May 18 through Labor Day on September 2, 2024. The Blue Star Museum initiative is a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums nationwide that wish to show appreciation for military families who face multiple deployments and reintegration challenges. To support this program, CSX partnered with MOCA Jacksonville to expand this free admission opportunity to include not only active-duty military, but also former military and first responders. To take advantage of this program, please bring valid military or first responder identification. Those who qualify are welcome to bring up to five family members.

"Witnessing the delight on the faces of the P.L.C.P Village students and their parents as they saw themselves and their community represented in a museum was truly inspiring!! This is why representation is important, reminding us all of the beauty within ourselves and our neighborhoods. Heartfelt gratitude to P.L.C.P Village, Sefu, Cleo, the dedicated staff at MOCA, UNF, Fine Arts Forum, and my cherished family, professors and friends for making this unforgettable experience possible," says AIR Elysa Adams (@_theasylem__). Join us for an opening reception on June 5 during Art Walk from 5-7:30 p.m.!

Did you know MOCA is the oldest art museum in the region and one of the first contemporary art museums to be established in the United States? As we celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2024, the museum is presenting a special four-part lecture series, part of MOCA’s Ideas of Our Time program, exploring the history of the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. During the first talk on June 5 at 7 p.m., we will hear from Alan Bliss, Executive Director of the Jacksonville Historical Society, who will discuss the cultural and political landscape of Jacksonville at the time of MOCA’s founding in 1924. Ideas of Our Time is free and open to all and takes place during DT Jax Art Walk. Registration is not required but recommended as the MOCA Theater has limited seats. Visit ioot-100.eventbrite.com for details.
