We are thrilled to announce recipients of our Spring 2024 DAISY Awards: 🌼 Madeline Brown - North Acute Care 🌼 Ashley Downs - South Acute Care Madeline’s selected nomination involved her commitment to the family of a patient she had previously cared for at Marshall Medical Center North. While this patient was receiving care at another facility outside of Marshall County, her condition quickly deteriorated. At the time, the facility would not able to transfer or discharge the patient despite her desire to spend her final days near her friends and family. Hearing of her former patient’s situation, Madeline took action, coordinating a means to get this patient back home. A team member shared, “Madeline had worked a 12-hour shift on Saturday night and had to go back on Sunday night, but she spent the time she could have been sleeping and resting helping get her former patient set up with hospice so that she could come home and be with her entire family. That next day, that patient had all of the equipment she would need and was successfully transferred home to be at peace in her final days. While many of the events did not actually happen at our facility, none of this could have been possible if Madeline did not possess the kindness and compassion for patients as she does.” Ashley’s nomination was submitted by a team member who witnessed Ashley go above and beyond to care for a patient who was truly in need of extra compassionate care. “Ashley took extra time with this patient. She made her feel like a person of worth. She prayed with her, sang songs with her, provided her with clothing and also spend hours helping remove numerous large knots out of her hair. The smile on this patient told it all. She made a huge impact with this patient’s physical and mental outcome during her stay.” Beyond their selected nominations, Madeline and Ashley have also regularly received multiple DAISY award nominations throughout this past year. Madeline has so received five total nominations and Ashley has received six. The consistent positive feedback each of these nurses have received highlights the tremendous amount of dedication and compassion our nursing staff has for our patients, their families and the community. The DAISY Award is a prestigious international honor that recognizes the outstanding dedication, compassion, and extraordinary care nurses provide. Staff pharmacists fill orders for medications, monitor patient drug therapies and provide drug information. Staff pharmacists supervise and direct supportive personnel. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, a staff pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the pharmacy manager.
