FUN FACT: Around 10% of MISTI students are in the UK for internships and research projects. Stay tuned for more updates from MIT students around the globe! #goMISTI
Today is the day. Over the next 3 months, more than 60 Massachusetts Institute of Technology students will travel to the UK for summer internship placements and research projects through MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI). Today is the day when most of them will be walking into their host company’s office, or university research lab, for the first time. I’m excited to see how our students contribute to organizations up and down the country working at the cutting edge of their fields, as well as what they learn about working cross-culturally - yes, Britain is different to the US! These international experiences will go on to impact our students' professional and personal trajectories for years to come, and we are immensely grateful to all our partner organizations and hosts in the UK who will be making this a reality every day this summer. Back in January 2024, we were thrilled about the MIT-South Asia program starting a pilot program in Bhutan—coaching and prepping high school students to participate in the International Math Olympiad. 🇧🇹 This summer, more MIT students will be heading to Bhutan to work on STEM-related projects! 💯 Kudos to Tenzin Jamtsho and MIT-South Asia program manager Megha Hegde for creating such opportunities and collaborations to further MIT's mission to advance knowledge and educate students! Find out more about the MIT-South Asia programs on the India website at misti.mit.edu/mit-india and the Nepal website at misti.mit.edu/mit-nepal #internationalcollaboration #internationalopportunities #globalimpact #makeanimpact
This has been one of the most important initiatives and collaborations, where Megha Hegde, Program Manager of MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI) - South Asia Program, and and I have been able to successfully implement this during my time here, with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Bhutan. This is the second batch of amazing MIT students going to Bhutan this summer to work on STEM-related projects like portable MRI machines, sustainable tourism, etc., at institutions based in Thimphu, Bhutan. We were able to send the first batch in January 2024 to coach high school students in competition math and prepare them to participate in the International Math Olympiad. Going forward, I really hope that this program is sustainable, lifelong and a growing partnership between MIT and Bhutan. This would not only benefit many Bhutanese students, organizations and institutions, but would also benefit MIT students by giving them an immersive experience in Bhutan. We can develop a close relationship with MIT to create one-of-a-kind opportunities and tackle some of society’s biggest challenges with technology, creativity and ingenuity. How do you rebuild a Ukrainian city in the midst of (and devastated by) war? Learn how scholars are approaching this at Massachusetts Institute of Technology! For those in the Boston area, join us today at 6 PM on campus for the grand opening of the "Roots of Resilience: Ukraine" exhibit! More details an map in the link below. (It will be up for the rest of May if you can't make it today!) "Roots of Resilience: Reclaiming Ukrainian City and Identity" showcases the story of Sviatohirsk, a small city in the eastern part of Ukraine, that was heavily damaged and occupied by Russian forces from June to September 2022. Through the narrative of Varvara, a local volunteer, viewers will explore how resilience shapes urban life in frontline communities and how people can breathe life into the city, giving new meanings to the previous narratives. The exhibit incorporates the urban planning proposals of graduate and undergraduate students in the MIT course “Circular Recovery Strategies of Wartime Ukraine: History and Urban Planning for a Ukrainian City.” The students have been investigating life in the city through the lens of Varvara’s experiences. Curators: Kateryna Lopatiuk (Visiting Fellow, Global MIT At-Risk Fellows Program) and Elizabeth Wood (Ford International Professor of History) Cosponsors: MIT History, D’Arbeloff Fund for Excellence in Education, MIT-Ukraine Program, MIT Center for International Studies (CIS), School of Architecture and Planning (SA+P) #Ukraine #war #urbanplanning #design MIT School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences MIT Department of Architecture MIT International Science & Technology Initiatives (MISTI) https://lnkd.in/eKve9zzG
