    "Kick it like METRO" - 150 political guests, #customers and employees followed our call and watched the first EURO 2024 semi-final together in our "Fußballhimmel" at the rooftop of our METRO Deutschland GmbH store in Berlin-Friedrichshain.   In perfect weather, the Management Board of METRO Deutschland welcomed the guests on the most beautiful and certainly highest football pitch in Berlin. "METRO has always stood for small and medium-sized businesses. The European Championship is bringing the restaurateurs a positive impact it has been missing for a long time. This is what we are celebrating here today," said Martin Schumacher, CEO of METRO Germany, in his welcoming speech. "The European Championship will have a positive impact on the hotel and restaurant industry, which is particularly important for Berlin," emphasised Franziska #Giffey, Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Companies and Mayor of Berlin.   Football and METRO - a perfect match! Why is that? In addition to our commitment to Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf, school classes and #clubs that would otherwise have no place to train have been training on our football roof in Berlin-Friedrichshain since 2006. Julia Thielicke, Head of Public Policy Germany, pointed out: "And we agree with national team coach Julian Nagelsmann: if we all stand together, we can achieve a lot. That's why we're working hand in hand with the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, which manages the pitch.“     Two Berlin-based clients - #MrRoster Berlin & #Barracuda Barcatering - took care of the amazing catering.     📣 We extend our partnership with Fortuna Düsseldorf ahead of schedule until 2028 We have been a partner of Fortuna since 2022 and have also been a sleeve sponsor since last season. With immediate effect, we join TARGOBANK, adidas and Hewlett Packard Enterprise on the first level of the Fortuna partner family with extensive sponsorship services. We are supporting the second-division football club especially in the areas of #food and #hospitality. The METRO Lounge in the east boxes of the Merkur Spiel Arena, for example, was recently the subject of a new catering concept, which was also given a new look.     "After all, we as METRO Marketplace are not simply a second Amazon!" Astrid Stegmann, Product Lead at METRO MARKETS is one of the people who should know - from China to full-service agency to METRO MARKETS. Through her unusual career path, Astrid Stegmann discovered her passion for structure, planning and challenges. It demonstrates that translation is not only about languages but also about understanding corporate processes and product strategies. She joined METRO Markets GmbH already back in 2018 and therefore was part of building up the B2B #marketplace from scratch. "Do METRO’s traditional product categories work for online retail and wholesale? Do we need to rethink things? What do online #customers actually want? What do we need to offer them?” What she likes most? The end-to-end process approach. Here, the customer comes first, and every process is viewed and tested from their perspective. All activities necessary to meet the customer’s requirements are thought through chronologically and logically. That’s very complex but also very exciting. The results provide insightful, data-based findings on how the respective business can operate better. One particularly profitable area of application is #menuoptimisation, where the individual menu is analysed. The service is already being used successfully: In 2022/23 alone, almost 1,100 such 'menu engineering' sessions were carried out, with a subsequent consultation and an increase in turnover for the restaurant of 20,000 euros per year.     Metro Türkiye takes another pioneering step in #sustainable fishing 🐟 METRO Türkiye, which has taken many pioneering steps in sustainable #aquaculture during its nearly 35 years serving the Turkish market, has undertaken a new industry-leading enterprise. The initiative combines aquaculture with plant cultivation to produce sea bass and salicornia in the same closed system through the application of the #Aquaponics method. With this system, the growth period for a sea bass, which typically takes 14-15 months, is reduced to 9 months. A key element is the system’s Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) which provides greater control over water quality, temperature, and disease management, contributing to sustainable aquaculture while enhancing productivity and product quality. 🤝 As part of this project, Metro Türkiye has partnered with Hatko Aquaculture, Denmark-based Alpha Aqua A/S and its Turkish partner, Nordic Foreign Trade Limited, for the design and supply of a new, state-of-the-art facility utilising a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in the Turkish city of Mugla. They plan to have the first fish harvest within nine months and to put our first products on the shelves through our #ownbrand METRO Premium in the first months of next year 👏 #OnTrack

    'Sudan Doğan Gelecek' projemiz kapsamında Muğla’da kurduğumuz Akuaponik sistem ile Türkiye'de perakende sektöründe bir ilke daha imza attık. Levrek ve deniz börülcesini aynı sistem içinde yetiştirdiğimiz bu projede bitkiler, balık tanklarından gelen zengin içerikli su ile yetiştiriliyor. Levrek üretiminde ‘Yediği Önünde Yemediği Yarında’ projemizde olduğu gibi deniz balığı oranı azaltılmış ve alg yağı içeren yem kullanıyoruz. Bu sayede Omega-3 bakımından daha zengin balıklar üreterek, sağlıklı beslenmeye de katkıda bulunuyoruz. Tesisin kısa sürede tamamlanmasının ardından ilk balık hasadının 9 ay içerisinde gerçekleşmesini ve ilk ürünlerimizi Metro Premium markamızla gelecek yılın ilk aylarında raflara taşımayı planlıyoruz. #yarınınyanında #işinmutfağında Alpha Aqua A/S Hatko Aquaculture Nordic Foreign Trade Limited

    "We want harmonized regulations for products which we can sell across and above Europe." There are various country-specific #requirements for the disposal of product #packaging and the accumulation of packaging waste. Amongst other things, this applies to the labelling. It provides information about the packaging material including its proper disposal and recycling. ❕ So far, there are no standardised rules in #Europe on how packaging should be disposed of and recycled. Consequently, the packaging of a product in France can look completely different in Italy. As a result, each country has its own recycling codes that customers can use as a guide. In a conversation with Euractiv|s Anna Gumbau Martínez and Andreas Schwab (MEP) our VP Own Brand Management Jens Bresler outlines the strategic choices we at METRO make to develop products on the #European market by exploring the critical policy and management lessons from the Green Deal and going into detail with #packaging and #labeling requirements.     The impact of #hospitality on global #sustainability goals is substantial: one in three meals is eaten away from home today. At the same time, restaurateurs are currently facing many challenges and have to operate efficiently and profitably. This is where our platform "My Sustainable Restaurant" comes in. It illustrates in a playful way how restaurateurs can identify their sustainability potential and implement tailor-made measures. We show that profitability and sustainability go very well together, especially in hospitality, and that #commitment becomes a competitive advantage: The "sustainable restaurant" saves costs, for example, when food waste, packaging or energy consumption are reduced and convinces guests who value sustainable enjoyment. For Goetz Braake (FCSI), it is in constant use during his consulting appointments. "Concrete tips, regulations and background information, clearly organised in chapters that are geared towards the processes in a restaurant.     „Making supply chains more robust is not an end in itself, but our core business.“ Well prepared for Europe's requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive #CSDDD. The aim of the directive is to protect the environment and human rights worldwide. METRO AG, METRO Deutschland GmbH and METRO LOGISTICS, due to national legislation, have already set the course at an early stage and are thus very well prepared for the recently adopted directive for European requirements for #humanrights and environmental violations along global supply chains.  We already ✅ established a social compliance risk management system years ago for #ownbrand products that we will be able to build on to comply with CSDDD ✅ adopted a Declaration of values on human rights in 2021,  ✅ published a Policy Statement on human rights 👇 in compliance with German national legislation,  ✅ developed a corporate guideline [https://lnkd.in/eRvjitRz] to translate the declaration of values on human rights operationally ✅ created an e-learning course available worldwide since December 2023 to familiarize all METRO employees with this important topic „Making supply chains more robust is not an end in itself, but our core business. We trade in resources and if we can't rely on our resources being produced safely on time, to a high quality and in a socially and environmentally responsible way, then we have a problem with our core business”, explained Nina von Radowitz, Head of Corporate Responsibility – Social Affairs at METRO AG, in a new network "Sustainable Supply Chain Management", which was recently launched by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Düsseldorf, Germany and IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein. With the introduction of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act at the beginning of 2023, this complex topic became a “hot topic” for all German based companies and will go even beyond the EU boarders with the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
