Located in east Dallas County, Texas, Mesquite ISD welcomes over 38,000 students everyday through the doors of our 51 campuses, including 33 elementary schools, nine middle schools, five high comprehensive schools, Vanguard High School and the Mesquite Academy.   • Join us in welcoming Robert Jacobs II to #MesquiteNation! He'll be serving as the new assistant principal at Dr. Ralph H. Poteet High School! Robert Jacobs II has been in education for 25 years, serving as a teacher and coach at Dallas ISD. During this time, he served as a teacher at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. His teaching experience includes roles as an AVID, college and career preparation, and physical education teacher. His coaching career includes several UIL State Basketball Championship titles, final four appearances, and football playoff matchups. Jacobs earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of North Texas and a master's degree in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University. #MISDExcellence

  • Congratulations to Terri Kokoszka on her new role as assistant principal at Kimbrough Middle School! Terri Kokoszka has completed 31 years in education, with 27 of those years being at Mesquite ISD. She started her career as a math teacher at Permenter Middle School in Cedar Hill before moving to MISD, where she taught math and coached at Agnew and Berry Middle School, as well as North Mesquite High School. Kokoszka also taught math and coached volleyball at Western Harnett High School in North Carolina before returning to Mesquite ISD in 2014. Upon her return, she served as an instructional coach and math teacher at Dr. John D. Horn High School. Kokoszka earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a specialization in math and a master's degree in health and kinesiology from Texas A&M University-Commerce. #MISDExcellence

  • We’re excited to announce Brandon Embrey as our new director of technical services! Brandon Embrey has completed 16 years of service in public education, all within Mesquite ISD. He has held various roles throughout this time, including computer technician - level II, helpdesk supervisor, and network operations supervisor. Before joining MISD, Embrey began his career in the information technology industry, providing desktop support at Computer Services, Inc. He attended Texas A&M University-Commerce and holds multiple IT industry certificates. #MISDExcellence

  • We’re excited to announce Bonnye Kath as the new assistant principal of Floyd Elementary! Bonnye Kath has completed 27 years of experience in education. She began her career as a band director in San Antonio, later moving to Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland before joining Agnew Middle School in 2003. Kath later served as a music teacher at Beasley Elementary for 11 years before she became a campus intervention specialist. She holds a bachelor's degree in music education from Texas Tech University and a master's degree in education administration from Lamar University. #MISDExcellence

  • Congratulations to Daniel Contreras, our new director of facilities for Mesquite ISD! Daniel Contreras has worked for Mesquite ISD for 31 years. His first assignment in the district was in the plumbing department as a journeyman plumber. He earned an irrigator license and served as the district’s irrigator. He eventually earned his master’s plumber license and was promoted to a supervisory role. He is currently a facilities project manager and has held the position for more than seven years. Additionally, he holds an asbestos program manager license. Contreras attended Mesquite schools from elementary through high school and graduated from the West Mesquite High School graduating in the top 5% in the class of 1985. #MISDExcellence

  • Introducing the next Judge Frank Berry Middle School Principal, Mr. Terry Riley. Our new leader of the Berry Bears has completed 14 years in the field of education, all right here in Mesquite ISD. Throughout his career, Riley has served as an associate principal at Dr. John D. Horn High School, an assistant principal at Berry MS, and an English teacher at A.C. New Middle School. Riley holds a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science and a Master's Degree in Secondary Education both from Stephen F. Austin University. #ExcellenceHappensHere

  • Congratulations to Dr. Grubbs, who will assume a new role as the director of continuous improvement at Mesquite ISD! Dr. Holly Grubbs is a dedicated educational leader with over 23 years of experience, all within Mesquite ISD. She received her doctorate from Southern Methodist University, With extensive experience as a school principal, Dr. Grubbs has been recognized for her exemplary leadership, receiving the principal of the year award and the TEPSA Student Leadership Award. Throughout her career, Dr. Grubbs has gained a deep understanding of school programs, curriculum development and effective leadership strategies. #MISDExcellence
