We are thrilled to share that President Biden just signed the bipartisan Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act of 2024, marking the first time in history that Congress has passed legislation to specifically address the stillbirth crisis. Thank you to all who elevated #stillbirth prevention and research to the highest levels of our government. Working together, we can continue to fight and create a better future and outcomes for all moms and babies. #MaternalHealth #InfantHealth #MarchofDimes

We were glad to honor #stillbirth affected families yesterday at a panel hosted by the Vice President to celebrate the passage of the Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act. It will support these families and prevent future stillbirths by making needed policy reforms.

Bringing a child into the world is both beautiful and life changing. Amidst the joy of becoming a parent, many also experience challenges with mental health in the postpartum period. Mental health can be a particularly vulnerable time in the postpartum period due to hormonal changes, sleep deprivation, physical recovery from childbirth, and the challenges adjusting to parenthood. Supporting mental health during this time period is essential for both parents and babies. Postpartum doulas are trained professionals who provide physical, emotional, and informational support to families during the postpartum period. One of their primary focuses is to support maternal mental health, which can include: 💜Active listening and emotional support. 📚Education and guidance. ☎️Resource referral and coordination. Today, we celebrate the establishment of the United States of America, as well as both the federal and state-led progress in the fight for the health of all American families. This week 20 years ago, California implemented the first paid family and medical leave in the nation. We look forward to continuing our support to expand this important benefit beyond the 14 states and Washington D.C. that currently offer it. July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. In the United States, it’s estimated that 1 out of every 5 women will experience a mental health condition during pregnancy or in the first year after giving birth. Among those who show symptoms of a mental health condition (such as depression and anxiety), about 75 percent don’t receive treatment. When it comes to postpartum depression (PPD), women of color are disproportionately affected—more than 50 percent of PPD cases go unreported among this group. Racial disparities are well documented in the diagnosis and treatment of maternal mental health issues. Safe day-to-day living conditions and health care that are free of perceived or actual differential treatment are critical to improving health outcomes. Join us by learning more, raising awareness and taking action. #MinorityMentalHealthAwarenessMonth Learn the signs and symptoms of depression and postpartum depression at ItStartsWithMom.org #ItStartsWithMom Join the fight for healthy moms, strong babies and families by demanding #BlanketChange for improved access to quality health care, healthy equity and prevention at https://lnkd.in/ec24hJw

This week, we and 20 other organizations wrote House Appropriations, Senate Appropriations, Senate GOP Appropriations Committee, and House Appropriations Committee Democrats to support $207 million for the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) program. ECHO is a vital research program that helps us understand a broad range of early environmental influences on maternal and child health and development.

Fetal surgery. In utero stem cell therapy. The artificial womb. You may not believe one man has played an oversized role in making all of this possible, but it's true. Dr. Alan Flake, the winner of the 2021 March of Dimes Richard B. Johnston, Jr., MD Prize, discusses his life passion, fetal therapy, on the latest MODCAST.
