Seed grants play a critical role in accelerating novel ideas and training the future workforce. Happy to hear about our grants at work! Congrats Sandesh Thapa.
Congratulations to Sandesh Thapa, a master's student in bioproducts engineering mentored by Ling Li and Yongjiang Zhang, for receiving the 2024 BIOME (Bioscience Association of Maine) Seed Grant. Sandesh is passionate about exploring how locally produced woody biochar could be a cost-effective sorbent material to help Maine farmers mitigate the impact of PFAS on their farming activities. #biochar #PFAS

Thrilled to be a partner on this project, way to go Educate Maine!
Here's to Maine Mobile Biolab's hugely successful maiden voyage! This rolling lab, launched in March, visited 12 schools in nine Maine counties, bringing life-sciences lessons to 2,750 students! Our onboard educators worked with 51 teachers to customize lessons for each class. This summer, we'll be visiting communities around the state for special events, and in the next school year we'll add another county to our school itinerary. The feedback has been gratifying--and we are confident that the Maine Mobile Biolab fills a need. One of the teachers we worked with said it best in their feedback, "Thank you for doing this work, and spreading the awesomeness of applied lab science!”
