    In our latest "Streaming Watch" analysis, we break down streaming viewership trends for the first half of 2024 across all the major streamers. Looking at the first half of the year (December 29, 2023 – July 4, 2024), each of Netflix’s entire Top 10 has more minutes watched than any other streaming titles besides Apple’s Masters of the Air (2.8B minutes watched) and three shows from Prime Video: Fallout (6.6B), Reacher Season 2 (5.58B) and Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2.65B).     As the slow march toward streaming saturation continues, music streaming services are shifting their focus to bolstering profitability and identifying ways to better understand and monetize their audience. With initiatives including subscription price increases and the introduction of new features, the Luminate 2024 Midyear Music Report details the importance of various DSP features to different audiences. Given these conditions and the wider inflationary environment, it’s important to recognize how the industry’s recent cost hikes have impacted the intended subscription behavior of consumers. For example, Luminate’s Music 360 study found female paid streamers to be more price-conscious than their male counterparts, finishing +51% more likely to cite the expensive nature of their subscription as a reason for their probable churn.     Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” and Peacock’s “Love Island USA” topped the Luminate streaming originals TV series charts for the July 19-25 period.⁠ ⁠ The Season 6 debut of “Cobra Kai” delivered 1.1 billion minutes viewed in the show’s first full week of availability, following the July 18 premiere of the first half of its final season. The July 21 season finale of relationship reality show “Love Island” drove that show to rack up 1 billion minutes viewed, down only slightly from the previous week’s 1.1 billion minutes watched.⁠ Read the full analysis here: https://lnkd.in/ggZC9bpP

    When Skydance expressed serious interest in buying a majority stake of Paramount’s corporate parent National Amusement earlier this year, all eyes turned to the digital platform seemingly at the center of the negotiations: Paramount+. Initially launched in 2021, the streamer enjoyed both subscriber success and critical acclaim. Despite this, Paramount+ struggled to find profitability. Many saw this M&A deal as an indication of a floundering platform. However, a merging of the companies’ content strategies holds the potential to create an entertainment powerhouse.     Luminate’s 2024 Midyear Music Report, released last week, revealed Latin music as the fastest-growing genre in the U.S. when ranking by share point change, comparing the first half of 2024 with the first half of 2023. Latin music leads all U.S. core genres in On-Demand Audio (ODA) streaming growth with +0.51 share points in the first half of 2024, powered by a +15.1% growth in ODA streaming volume. One of the biggest drivers of that growth is the rise of Regional Mexican, which is now the largest Latin subgenre in the U.S. Read more: https://lnkd.in/ezJWdsRk
