Through her work with The Knight x LMA BloomLab publishers, Adriana Lacy created a 64-page playbook to help guide local news organizations toward better audience engagement. Highlights from the playbook include: 💡 Social media platforms have become increasingly fragmented, segmenting audiences by age, political preferences and interests. 💡Content creators should leverage the power of AI-powered data analysis tools to boost SEO strategies with advanced keyword research and trend analysis. 💡Publishers should shift their focus from lead generation or driving traffic to establishing and nurturing strong relationships with potential customers. 💡Publishers should create well-structured listening surveys that reach larger audiences by including a variety of questions that gain a comprehensive understanding of individual readers’ interests, passions, perspectives, reading habits, satisfaction levels and more. Lacy’s work was made possible by a generous grant from the Walton Family Foundation. The Knight x LMA BloomLab launched in 2022 thanks to a $3.2 million, three-year grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Fantastic opportunity below from the Blue Engine Collaborative team! 25 news publishers will get guidance on turning election-driven audience surges into long-term loyalists, paying supporters, and sustaining digital reader revenue over time. Deadlines and details below!
📣 Coming soon: The 2024 Google News Initiative Reader Loyalty and Retention Lab in North America! The Lab will guide up to 25 news publishers through the 2024 election cycle and other major news events, helping participants turn an election-driven audience surge into long-term loyalists, paying supporters (subscribers or members), and, critically, sustaining digital reader revenue over time. By leveraging spikes in audience interest from elections – as well as other significant events like sports championships and extreme weather seasons – publishers will practice strategies to deepen their connection to audiences and, importantly, keep them engaged after the news cycle ends. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s included in the six-month Lab starting in August 2024: • Audits and Reviews: Evaluate your current practices and receive strategic guidance. • Interactive Workshops: Learn and implement best practices in digital audience loyalty and retention. • Individualized Coaching: Get personalized support from Blue Engine’s team of advisors and subject-matter experts. • Community of Practice: Share insights and results with peers in a collaborative environment. Applications are open until July 21 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Learn more and apply here: https://lnkd.in/gqRbKbxQ News organizations will be asked to commit a cross-functional team of 3-5 people (representing the newsroom, digital marketing, product/tech/UX, and data/analytics). This team will commit up to four hours (including live virtual sessions, recorded videos, small-group discussions, and coaching calls) per week during the program, not including holiday breaks. Teams will be required to keep a log of results throughout and submit a short report of your performance at the end of the program. We will evaluate your application based on your impact on the community you serve, how prepared you are to pursue your business’s biggest consumer revenue opportunities, and your willingness to commit to the program’s requirements. Lab participants will join an active community of news organizations that remain allies for one another long after the conclusion of the formal program. Here’s to building lasting relationships with our audiences! 🚀 Follow us here on LinkedIn for updates on this and other programs.
