2020 brought about a renewed focus on local customers for many hotels. Through special rates, upgrades, and staycation packages many hotels were able to sustain occupancies that allowed operations to continue even at base levels. Hotels that had cultivated strong local brand affinity prior to 2020 became standout performers. The lesson here is to not neglect local clientele, during economic downturns or travel slowdowns like we saw this year, in 2008/09 and 2001, community support will help you.
