I believe that a single conversation can change the trajectory of your #career by leading to a lasting mentorship that can launch you on a path of excellence, personal success and help forge a lifelong connection with a professional in your field. #NationalMentoringMonth was proclaimed a national observance in 2022 and is commemorated annually in January. This observance was established by MENTOR , an organization that advocates to expand mentorship opportunities to a wider array of students and young professionals, in 2002. During this month, it’s important to celebrate those who have helped guide your career and to consider offering mentorship to someone in your industry or network. Throughout my life, I’ve had incredible mentors, such as John Utendahl and Ray McGuire. From my time as an intern at Bell Labs to obtaining my MBA, my mentors helped steer my careers in chemical engineering and in mergers and acquisitions. That is why I’m a staunch advocate for mentorships and work to make sure others can have the profound experience with mentors I was fortunate to have. As founding Director and President of Fund II Foundation, I find it crucial that mentorship opportunities are provided to youth from disenfranchised communities. Fund II Foundation’s Restoration Retreat is one example of how the organization is creating those opportunities to help young people from inner-city neighborhoods thrive both personally and professionally. Additionally, the Foundation developed internXL, an innovative internship matching process that helps students grow professionally. The organization also partnered with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and provided a $48 million grant to support the Fund II Foundation UNCF #STEM Scholars Program. The STEM Scholars Program identifies Black students interested in #STEM fields and provides them with scholarships, internships, mentoring and other resources to help them pursue their interests. And, at Vista Equity Partners (Vista), we know firsthand the power of providing career guidance to those from underserved communities. Our Vista Frontier Fellows Program creates opportunities for undergraduate students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in #privateequity, enterprise software #investing and #finance. Hospice care can provide a great deal of comfort and support to families in need. It allows patients to spend their final days in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by loved ones. Hospice professionals provide emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families, helping them to cope with the end-of-life journey. The good of hospice care is that families can feel at ease knowing their loved ones are receiving compassionate care and support during their final days. Unfortunately, not all hospice experiences are positive. There have been cases where patients have received poor care, or have been neglected by hospice professionals. It's important for families to do their research and choose a reputable hospice care provider. The bad of hospice care is that families may experience subpar care, leading to unnecessary stress and anxiety during an already difficult time. In some cases, patients have experienced abuse from hospice care professionals. This is a rare occurrence, but it highlights the importance of being vigilant and reporting any suspicious behavior. The ugly of hospice care is that some patients have experienced harm at the hands of those who are supposed to be providing them with care and support.
