Buyers expectations are changing so fast. The Buyers Journey is 100% a competitive differentiator. Let me explain what happened to me as a buyer 30mins ago, and why you need to look at your buyers journey immediately. I'm looking to get estate planning done (along with Life Insurance, everyone should have this). I got targeted by a great ad that "spoke to me". I fill in the form, they call me, we connect. They walk me through "their process", an upfront $300 charge for the first meeting, and if I end up working with them, it gets applied to the final fee. "Sure, sounds reasonable", I said. "What is the ball park for the overall fee to set this up"? Their version of their BDR replies with "I couldn't tell you that and then goes into a long speech about how everyone is different". I clarified and said so I give you $300 (essentially I'm paying them to do a discovery meeting) and then I start a journey with you not knowing whether the final bill is $500 or $5,000. "well we need to know how much assets you have". I kind of get this, eg maybe depending on your assets they recommend different avenues like trusts etc. That said, I can't sign up to an unknown outcome, and in a world where I can sign up a will and estate online with a fixed price it just isn't going to fly (I'm 100% open to paying more than online for white glove). They end pretty abruptly with "ok well if you change your mind, let us know". They just lost a real buyer. Let me be clear... they didn't lose me over price (remember I never even got to find out), they lost me over a lack of transparency and following my journey not theirs. What would have worked and kept me in the journey would be "the final fee can vary based on options that meet your individual circumstance, as a guide, with assets of x, the fee ranges from y to z". So anyway, I'm open to recommendations for estate planning if anyone has any :-) , jumping down from my soapbox now.... p.s A great example of a buyer journey and a firm you should look at if you don't have life insurance or need more is from Jamie Hale and the team over at Ladder. Actually, Jamie, please can you create estate planning online :-) #buyerjourney
