We’re grateful to the ATLAS Institute at CU Boulder for the incredible story and for paving the way to think innovatively about business and sustainability! Our co-founder, Ricky Marton Marton, an ATLAS master’s alum, has brought that foundation to Koru, where we’re leveraging AI to drive sustainability in business. Excited for the journey ahead and the positive impact we’re making. Discover more about Koru’s mission and vision: https://www.koru.global #Gratitude #ATLASInstitute #SustainabilityInnovation #AIForGood

ATLAS graduates go on to big things! Ricky Marton, who completed his master’s at ATLAS in 2021, recently co-founded Koru with Devarshan Patel. The company harnesses AI to align sustainability initiatives with business objectives, streamline partnership processes, and drive positive environmental and economic outcomes. They recently had the chance to pitch in SXSW’s Innovative World Technology startup track. Here are some insights from Ricky: What inspired you to start Koru? The inspiration for starting Koru stemmed from my PhD research at ASU along with my Master’s research at CU Boulder, which focused on the intersection of technology and impact. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I worked with both the public and private sectors and encountered significant inefficiencies and frustration points in the partnership process. I realized that artificial intelligence could bridge these gaps, making partnerships more effective and sustainable, benefitting business and the world around us.    What is the company’s mission? Koru’s mission is to empower businesses to seamlessly integrate sustainability into their core operations and drive impactful growth. We achieve this through advanced AI-driven solutions that align sustainability efforts with business goals. Our comprehensive approach includes developing tailored sustainability strategies, creating partnership opportunities, and leveraging predictive modeling to analyze risks, challenges, and outcomes. By providing businesses with these tools, we help them make informed decisions, foster long-term success, and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.   How did your time at ATLAS prepare you for co-founding Koru? The interdisciplinary approach at ATLAS, which combines technology, design, and entrepreneurship, provided me with a unique perspective on leveraging technology for social good. The professors challenged me to view my work and future career through a very different lens, allowing creativity and continuous innovation to arise. The program specifically allowed me to take a variety of classes ranging from coding to social entrepreneurship, offering a well-rounded education that was crucial for my career. My capstone project involved working with a DC organization called Pact, developing an open innovation platform. This experience laid the foundation for my research and in retrospect, was a basic version of what became Koru. The collaborative environment at ATLAS encouraged innovative thinking and problem-solving, deepening my understanding of how AI can be applied to sustainability and partnership processes.   Check out Koru’s VC-backed crowdfunding campaign as they shape the future of sustainable businesses around the globe: https://wefunder.com/koru

Companies recognize sustainability as key to long-term value, yet high investment costs are a major barrier. Access to capital and investor support are vital for sustainability efforts, which also drive lower costs of capital over time. Aligning sustainability with core business strategies can mitigate risks like climate change and enhance overall corporate value. At Koru, we help businesses navigate these challenges by integrating sustainability into their strategic roadmap. Reach out to us to find out more! https://lnkd.in/gZbwDTTY
